Actually, Park has an interesting story. NXR was the first meet ALL season that the top 7 got to run together. Covid, flu & Pneumonia hit the team hard. Jv had to step up each meet and fill 2-3 spots on Varsity. Even at Regionals. NXR rolled around and then Politics came into play. The host team was trying to keep Park out of the Championship race even though their current entry time clearly should have them seeded there. (word was out all 7 were running) That is why Park is nowhere to be found on the published Championship Race entries list. After that was resolved (official petition filed) and Park put into the race late Thursday night, the outcome of the race was no surprise at all. It clearly proved some sad, shady happenings & that Park should have been in the race in the first place. Plus, when healthy is one of the top teams in Tx. A great way for the 5 seniors to finish their HS cross country careers taking down some highly ranked teams & showing them that.

I’ve seen way worse teams entered in championship races
Just like the flu hit Park hard, the entire Carroll boys team got hit hard with the flu between NXR and NXN and they still weren’t right today. Just crappy timing unfortunately.
Ortiz was #3 on SLC at NXN. That’s the highest he finished on the team. Props to him. He was usually their 7th this year. he was also the only senior that scored He truly showed that he belonged on varsity this year Big things coming for this team next year 📈
Vandegrift looks good for next year. Schieffelin - 9:25 3200 Haley - 4:24 1600 McCullough - 9:47 3200 Blaut - 4:50 1600 Schick - 10:13 3200 Ebeier - 10:34 3200 The first 3 were always scoring for the team, and the next 2 spent some time scoring for them too
It is very possible. They lose a top runner and no good #5 yet, but many 6A teams are in even worse shape. Also keep in mind that Saturday was maybe 15-30 seconds faster than Friday. If Grapevine can get a #5 and 6 well into the 16's then yes.
It is hard to even pick a 2nd place 6A team as they're all losing good talent and depth. Only 1 runner in the Top 8 isn't a Senior and that was Freshman Caden Leonard.
I think Grapevine will find a 5th. Rayon was their only returner from last year and they were able to find a 3/4/5. All of them were jv last year. And they got a solid transfer who is now their #1. they have a whole year to find a 5th guy
I think second place will be Vandegrift again. They only return their 2/3/4 but they also have Schick who scored for them last year but only ran 1 race (jv conference) because he was hurt or something. He has a whole year to get himself back. They also have another freshman (Blaut) who was sometimes in their top 7. But 2 seniors took his 6th and 7th spot. That’s a good way to finish a cross country career. And every year they seem to get a freshman who scores. So they will find a 4/5 and be fine.
Third place will probably be Katy Tompkins. They did pretty well and return everybody
El Paso Franklin is another team that could podium. They took 5th at NXR and they keep 4 of their top 6, plus 10:05 and a 10:11 3200 guys who were not on that varsity squad.
Round Rock as well. They return 4 guys under 16:15. Also another sophomore who won the JV districts by a lot. They always seem to have people come out of nowhere
I would never count out the Woodlands. They always seem to reload no matter how many seniors they lose. They could possibly have a chance to podium since behind SLC it’s pretty wide open

Next year’s Vandegrift varsity team will be the hardest to make in school history. Even though they graduated 4 seniors from state. Here are the nonseniors they have right now Schieffelin - 11 - 4:23 1600 / 9:25 3200 Haley - 10 - 4:21 1600 / 9:27 3200 McCullough - 9 - 4:38 1600 / 9:47 3200 Blaut - 9 - 4:50 1600 / 10:20 3200 Schick - 11 - 4:43 1600 / 10:13 3200 Stafford - 10 - 4:40 1600 Ebeier - 10 - 4:57 1600 / 10:18 3200 Nutt - 9 - 4:54 1600 / 10:30 3200 The first 3 were always scoring for the team, and the next 2 spent some time scoring for them too They also have junior Kempana who has a 1:55 800 / 4:41 PR. But he hasn’t done cross yet. If he does choose to do cross this next season, the team will be even deeper. They also always seem to have a freshman score. Maybe one will score next year but we will see. This team will also be very young. 3 seniors on varsity at the most
