What do you guys think about the top teams that will finish at the state xc meet this year? I was thinking southlake carroll, coppell, prosper, vandegrift, and the woodlands could be in the running for state podium.

Coppell is definitely on the come up with their mile times, but southlake is still first in the state for both 1600 and 3200
These seem like good predictions.
Boys Teams:
1. Southlake Carroll
2. Woodlands
3. Atascocita
I think Woodlands/Atascocita will be similar. SLC is on the league of its own.
Coopell is one of the teams to watch too. Looks like they missed state by 3 points last year and return everybody. 4:25 1600 average
atascocita has almost no returners out of their top 5, i’m not sure about how successful they’ll be this xc championship season
vandegrift is a team to watch.

Atascocita got 4th at state and actually returns everyone except for their #3 and #4. And also another 4:31 1600 guy.
I’m expecting this team to have 6 seniors on varsity at least. The year after that they will be back to ground zero.
What about the girls?
Here are my predictions:
1. Southlake Carroll
2. Flower Mound
3. The Woodlands
4. Klein
5. Klein Oak
Flower Mound is looking to have no seniors scoring. Definitely a good setup to reclaim the title in 2023.
Kind of unrelated to 6A but Lucas Lovejoy had a 4:28 1600 average and is looking to have no seniors on varsity next year. Definitely a contender to go to NXN in 2023.
All these years and I still can't believe why Southlake runs on the Cotton Belt trail. It's all cement and pretty flat.
Keller runs on the Bear Creek trail which is also all cement but it least it has one hill.
they do that so that they have accurate PPM times, comparable by year. they also do that because it’s easy to bike on and i’m sure they have mile markers along it.

flower mound will still win is my guess, they have a freshman coming in that tan a 5:30 as a 7th grader. and at the 6a track state meet, nic humphries got 3 silvers and sam had a couple medals too including a gold. they also only lost like 2 or 3 runners from their varsity. carroll girls also lost their top runner kaylie cox.
Individuals predictions:
1. Kevin Sanchez - won the 3200 and state title
2. Reese Vannerson. Second to Sanchez in the 3200. 9:01. Placed 26th at CC state
3. Luis Pastor - 9:03 in the 3200 and placed 4th at state in that race. 4th returner from the state meet.
4. Thomas Kubala - 9:04 in the 3200 and got 5th at state in that race. Did not run at CC state last season
5. Jack Johnston - placed 23rd at state but he got a 9:17 in the 3200. He also beat Mullen at the Southlake XC invite.
6. Andrew Mullen - 2nd returner from state. Looking to help Coppell do big things.
7. Omer Ibrahim - 3rd returner from state
8. Jerry Mendez - did not run at state XC but he was the fastest finisher in the 1600 state meet. He and Kubala are going to make Klein’s dynamic duo.
9. Pablo Lesarri - 6th returner at XC state. 9:25 3200. Looking to lead the Highlanders to big things.
10. David Fisher - ran a 15:15 at Garmin. 7th returner from State. 9:25 3200 PR. Looking to lead Southlake Carroll to big things.
Girls predictions:
1. Samantha Humphries - Flower Mound - top returner from state 3200. Also 16:50 in the TX Distance festival 5K.
2. Nicole Humphries - was right behind Samantha H in the 1600. No 3200 times.
3. Alexandra Fox - 20th at state but ran a 10:30 in the 3200.
4. Shewaye Johnson - 3rd place last year. 10:47 in the 3200.
5. Alexandra Walsh - 10:48 in the 3200. Lead runner for Southlake Carroll. Though she got 71st at State. Looking to lead the team to big things.
6. Emily Ellis - 10:38 in the 3200. Beat Kathryn Koonts in the race where she ran that.
7. Kathryn Koonts - 10:58 in the 3200. 5th at state.
8. Adelynn Rodrigues - 7th at state last year / 10:51 in the 3200.
9. San Juanita Leal - 10:51 in the 3200. 23rd at CC State.
10. Penelope Gracey - 9th at CC state but a 11:10 3200.
Houston Strake Jesuit returns their top 3. They lose their next top 4, but they had a guy run a 4:30 at the moonlight mile and a 16:55 in CC. If he can step up and HSJ finds a 5th man (maybe an incoming junior since many people make big jumps from sophomore to junior year) they will be a team to watch as well.
Other teams to watch:
Clute Brazoswood - returns 5 of their top 7. Placed 9th.
Wylie - placed 5th and also returns 5 of their top 7, but they weren’t so much of a depth team.
Watch for the El Paso schools too.
El Paso Eastwood loses 4 varsity guys but they seem to always reload and have good depth. They return 3 from their top 7 and 2 sub-10 guys who were not on their varsity.
El Paso Franklin returns their 1-6. 3 guys under 9:45 and 2 more sub-4:50 guys.
Keller girls won state in 2016/2017 and got 5th in 2018. They didn’t go to state since then. What happened?
