For those that don't pay attention - Teare ran 13:06 mostly solo in the rain with a 4:05 last 1600 and a 55.85 final lap. He only had a pacer for 1800m. This was in March. Fisher closed in 4:03 with pacers for 3800m.
I know you are just trolling, but in Feb Fisher ran 12:53 with a 3:57 last 1600 and closed in 58. There is ZERO chance Teare would have beaten Fisher today regardless of the race. ZERO chance unless Fisher gets injured. Yesterday, I’d say Fisher would have had a 10% chance of winning, maybe a little better if the race went a bit faster.
Jonathan Davis almost won yesterday….was I the only one watching? I’m a big Teare fan, but yesterday was risky and Teare won because he is SO much better than the rest of the 1500 B teamers. Today Fisher dominated in a way that leaves really no room for somebody to beat him who is not better over 5000. Teare is NOT up to Fisher’s level at that distance now. Ever, well maybe, but today? NO CHANCE.
Was ‘watching’ on USATF results site and it looks like Woody dropped a 1:24 last 600 to pass Nur and Bor?
Woody was out of it. Totally out of frame. No chance….but then he closes insanely fast. Amazing. However, the story is Fisher. He’s ready to truly compete for a medal at the wc. That last mile, in that heat, and given his overall time…truly a world class performance.
Woody kind of looked like crap from the beginning. He wasn't smooth and seemed super jerky. I'm shocked he rallied so hard and made it on the team
Actually you're right. If the race played out like yesterday then he doesn't have much of a chance. But I think anything under 3:40 he's in the mix.
Certainly in the mix, though a faster race helps Nuguse a ton and some others as well. Fisher runs the 5/10 for a reason and they had Jager push it on with a purpose - they don’t trust his last 400 off a pedestrian pace.

You are trolling, I am posting facts. Teare's solo race in March (far from peaking) was more impressive than this race from Fisher. Fisher beating Teare in a 1500? You have to be trolling. Fisher can't break 1:50 in the 800. Teare's 3:50.17 in the mile converts to a 3:33.11 1500, almost 2 seconds faster than Fisher.
Much higher chance Fisher beats Teare in the 1500 yesterday than Teare beats Fisher in the 5000 today.

Another example of why this sort of extrapolation is flawed is that today Woody ran a 4:07 last 1600 with a 54.24 last 400, but he wasn't close to beating Fisher. Comparing splits across races with different circumstances doesn't really tell you much.

Did the TV commentators note the BTC team tactics--Jager rabbiting for Fisher--during the race?

Seems obvious that Chelimo posted the workout on youtube as a smoke screen to try and cover his clearly inadequate fitness. Every kilometer he ran was slower today.

I wouldn’t call Teare’s race more impressive and I do think Fisher has the edge between them in a straight time trial, but WOM is insane if he thinks Teare wouldn’t at least be competitive. In a slower race Teare wins more often than not, and even in a fast one he will be much closer to Fisher over 5k than Fisher will be to him over 1500m.
Regardless of how the 1500 final played out yesterday , I don’t see any race scenario where Fisher beats Teare. The 5k is another story.

Your missing my point. Of course Teare is better than Fisher at 1500, but yesterday was a bit of a crap shoot. You realize that Jonathan Davis got second place? Teare was able to maneuver and made it to the line first because it was a weak field and he got lucky that his boxes were not fatal. It was a bit of a sh-T show and Fisher would have had a chance. I’m not sure where you are getting this idea that Fisher can’t run 50 sec or 1:50? Has he tried in any recent race? Today, Fisher broke the field a mile out. It was a classic 5000 beat down and no, Teare could not have hung with him. He does not have Fisher’s strength over that distance today. Fisher is two seconds slower than Teare at 1500, well Fisher is 13 seconds faster than Teare over 5000, probably more.

Then why did Fisher need Jager to pace him?
You are simply proving my point. Jager was in the race. NO chance Teare can win such a race over Fisher. None. Yesterday there were 4-5 guys no better than Fisher at 1500 that almost won and might have if things didn’t open just right for Teare.
It's about closing in 4:0x with a 54 second last lap in 90 degree heat...
Wow, Fisher sets the meet record of 13:03 in 90 degrees, closes his last k in 2:28 and wins easily by 3 seconds. You are not impressed? You think the East African athletes have no concerns about him at all? He’s likely in sub 12:50 shape in a TT setting, and he’s plenty fast when needed at the close. He’s a threat to medal, though of course not a favorite, at one of the two distances. The issue is what distance is better for him? Probably 10000.
Here we go with the time trial hypotheticals...where is Scott Faubs when you actually need him?
He got outkicked by Joe Klecker in a champs race in the last month. They are not concerned.

Wrong. Teare even with mistakes and not sandbagging the race like Thompson who was just running to beat guys with the standard (admittedly) was able to decisively win. Lot of things went wrong for him and he is high quality so he has daylight in a slow race. That was a terrible racing prospect for Fisher who from lane 1 could maybe run 52.2. Forget it if he had to weave through people. A sprinter he is not.

You didn't even watch Teare's 5k. If your poor a$$ can afford a flotrack subscription, get one and watch it. Teare was smooth and comfortable running 13:06 and only switched gears the last 100m. 4:03 last 1500 is nothing for Teare, he's run a 3:48 1600.
After Grant Fisher placed 5th in the Olympic 10000m I knew he stepped up to the next level as a medal contender. After this year indoor campaign, his AR, and now his 5000m first national title Grant can't be happy with anything less then a Worlds medal.
In my opinion Fisher is almost a lock for a World Championship medal of he performs up to his capabilities and not make any dumb tactical mistakes. I believe in the right race he could run sub 26:25 this year, so he should never run a 28;00 10000m again. Not even in a major championship heat or U.S. final.
