Yeah, Webb's time seems to have a force field around it. Even though any sub 3:30 runner is capable of breaking his time, races haven't worked out that way.
Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen takes gold in the Men's 1,500m in Berlin at the 2018 European Championships. For more on European Athletics, visit https://www.e...
Yeah, that the face that the National Championships are very close to this meet and they have to actually make it in the top 3 to go to Worlds. But yeah. They really should race more often and race harder.
I find this race hard to watch. Absolutely horrendous race by everyone not named Jakob. Complete tactical misconduct by Wightman/Lewandowski. A 1:51/53.5 close by a 17-year-old wins a Senior continental title in a 3:38+ race? The top 3 would've gotten rolled by Hocker/Nuguse at last year's NCAAs. Probably a low point for the European Champs 1500 with GBR/Jakob/Spain much better now.
if he goes with the pacer, he risks blowing up and losing the race. this is the instagram era, the W looks pretty. conservative start, wins by 25m, 3:49-50.
I think it is safe to say that Jakob will go after Steve Cram´s 3:46.32 European mile record and not the WR.
I also think it is realistic that he can get it. The weather seems to be near to perfect. And if the pacers are doing a good job it is up to Jakob to show that he is close to his best.
He shall run near to 56 per lap to get the record. His PB from the Olympic final in the 1500m last year equals a low 3:45.
it takes a really good day to run even the EU record, and i don't think it is evenly paced. as such, going with the pacers involves a lot more risk, and i think where he is right now is off his peak. i don't know how far off, and i don't think he's too far off from being able to run 3:46. i do think going with the pacers is risky though, and he's more likely to hang back and ramp up into it for the W, with a still good time.
Yeah, what is this strange made-up distinction? Jakob has requested 1:53.0 for the first 880. If his fitness is where it should be, he won't blow up. He might slow down a little bit the first 2-400 after the pacer drops, but that is natural and can be made up in the kick.
Not bad! The early pace killed off Katir (DNF) and Zeleke. The mile distance really got to Wightman (glacial 17.1 last 109 meters). Jakob beat my prediction by .44 Oli by .32 on the strength of a sensational 3rd lap. Props to Jakob and the Kenyan pacemaker for ramping back up between 700 and 1,000. Not easy to do!

Fantastic prediction.
If ThoughtsLeader had been marginally less naieve about Spanish Moroccans improving their 1500m times from 3:36 to 3:28 in one season, it might have been a perfect prediction.
