I'm in day 7 of having COVID and on day 5 lost my sense of taste and smell. Thought I'd see who else on here also faced this and how long it took you to get them back. It sucks not being able to smell or taste anything!
I lost my sense of smell but not taste. If I ate an orange I knew it was sweet, if I ate chips I knew it was salty, if I drank coffee I knew it was butter. I just couldnt tell if it was an orange, or potatoes chips, or coffee so I lost the smell portion of taste, not a real taste (sweet, salty, bitter, sour, umami).
I lost my sense of taste, so i started craving spicy condiments like HP Sauce and horseradish. I couldn't eat bananas for about a month because they were so bland
I’ve been stuffed up where taste and smell are muted, but never completely gone like with COVID. It only lasted about a week, but it was strange.
I’m no fear monger, I think COVID is fairly benign for healthy people. But losing taste and smell 100% is a weird side effect.
My wife got COVID pretty early, Spring 2020 and lost her sense of smell for over a month. Strange disease how it’s evolved and how varied reactions can be from sniffles to death. I haven’t been keeping up with the stats lately but I think deaths are extremely rare with the latest variant.

It's just like losing your sense of taste and smell with any cold or flu but covid fearmongers parade it like they lost an arm or leg
I never fully lost my sense of taste or smell with a cold or even flu, more like a dull sense of smell and taste. My family recently got Covid, I probably gained weight quarantining and eating. My wife had no sense of taste or smell whatsoever for about 2 weeks and probably lost weight. I would agree that the fear and uncertainty surrounding Covid is out of control with many.
I got it, and only had symptoms in my sinuses. No cough, no sore throat etc.
My sense of smell was on and off days 5-12. I would occasionally experience this very strange metallic smell. A strong, almost overwhelming smell of something that seemed to be like metal.
If this is what people have for long periods, they have all my sympathy. Not good.

I haven't had a sniffle in 3 years. I am unvaccinated and I am a teacher and coach. I think every kid in the high school was out once or twice with Covid.
