LetsRun posters, myself included, are avid fans of the sport. What we would all like to see is the 2022 US HS equivalent of the 1954 Commonwealth Games, with Gary Martin playing the role of Landy and setting a hot pace, and Sahlman playing Bannister, trying to outkick him. It’s fair to gripe about missing out on that spectacle, but it’s silly to personally fault either high school athlete for not playing into our desires as fans.
Colin Sahlman gets to live his life on his terms. Lets Run posters, even if they think their reasoning makes sense, do not matter. As things stand the Sahlman Bros. will run the 800 at Brooks. Is it possible Colin could switch to the mile? It's possible but not probable. Whatever he chooses to do Colin has had a nice season, as has Gary Martin. I wish both of them well.
Cali Boy’s post is obviously true, every word.

Martin is running his specialty while the best HS XC runner in the U.S. is running the 800m. It’s hard to believe Colin isn’t wimping out. He should be chomping at the bit to take on Martin.

Colin had planned to run the 800 at Brooks PR more than a month ago, well before Martin ran sub 4.
Do you seriously think that Colin is going to change the plans for his season that he has had for a long time just because some guy on the internet named after an Indian is upset? No way!
