When I was in high school one of my classmates, Gary, was invited to appear on the Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder. He had no talent or reason to appear other than he asked, and was was persistent with his requests for over a year. Remember no internet, email or other ways to engage. Actually Gary's talent was that he set the Guinness World Record for reciting Hamlet's soliloquy "To be, or not to be.." the fastest.
This was in 1973 and he appeared with Lance "no pants" Rentzel, and some guy who wanted to re-write the US Constitution. So when it was Gary's turn Mr Snyder asked him where he sees himself in the future. He said he will be sitting in that seat , pointing to Snyder's seat. Snyder got a chuckle and decided to switch seats..
Sometimes you've got to seize the moment with humor. Perhaps that's what Teare was doing?
