Tell that to that him but I think he just feels sad that Nico Young is being overshadowed by Nur but that's OK, nico will get his time to shine.. Now that Nur has graduated
…anyway, he is faster than his sister was in grade 8. He will have to improve some more (not much) to better his sister’s grade 9 perf of 9:53. pretty sure he will do that (maybe even this year if he runs 3200m again this year).
You guys are kind of sensitive about Touhy. She’s on her way to American GOAT status based on some good indoor races while the biggest thread about Nico to date, is when he cratered in the heat last year at the NCAA Regionals. Isn’t Nur a few years older than Young?
Again, I’m a big fan of Touhy but where’s the love for Nico? If there is just one music video starring Nico, I will be happy.
With all due respect to Tuohy, Merrick, and Haney, the top middle school distance runner in the US right now is undoubtedly Owen Clemons from Tennessee. Kid ran 15:17 at RunningLane in December (beating Merrick by 18 seconds) and then ran 1:59 for 800, 4:27 for a full mile, and 8:53 for 3000 indoors this year (soundly beating Haney in multiple races). He has also ran 53.9 for an open(!) 400m this outdoor season. There is no one else in the country right now with better PBs, let alone at that range of performances.
Keegan Smith has set national freshman records for XC 5K and indoor mile this past year (and nearly 3200m recently). But next year at this time he might not even be the fastest freshman ever from the state of Tennessee...
I thought the bigggest thread about Nico to date was the one started by the founder of this site insisting that Nico would be a better long term prospect than Tuohy? Fun times.
Also, there are just differences between how high school male and female distance runners develop as anyone who has frequented this site has heard about. I saw some threads about how Nico may never win an NCAA title or may never run under a certain time, but none that I noticed questioned that he was a pro prospect. With KT one bad race and out came the orchestra of doom.
Anyway, KT's brother seems like a promising young athlete.
You use whatever metric suits your girl. Cook and Hutchins are faster in HS than Tuohy. So that now means they will be the fastest Americans ever?
nope, just because they ran fast in hs doesnt mean they are gonna run fast in college
one thing katelyn has proved and cook and hutchins havent is that katelyn tuohy was able to get back on high level after injuries, knee surgery, getting out of shape, maturation, pressure other more factors that play in the hs to college transition
tuohy ran 9:01 15:37 4:33 4:14 in a girl's body, she was very young and had a different type of body when she was 15-16 years old ... now at 20 she has matured as a young woman and she has changed physically... and tuohy has done a great job with embracing change and she looks and runs much stronger than ever

some of these poster's or rather trolls' predictions come with jealousy rather than pure honest prediction based on her times VS previous Americans... for the simple fact that they hate the attention tuohy gets
Tuohy has 4:09 8:54 15:14 times, no other female runner at age 20 has those times before nor now except for her
AND some people just really doesn't want to acknowledge her bright future just as how they never acknowledged that she's going to be a force to be reckon with at college saying she's DONE AND BURNT OUT.. Not gonna blame them because we don't know the FUTURE holds but then if we consider the fact that she's very strong and has overcome many things pro runners also goes through like injuries, surgeries, physical changes, geting out of shape and ramping back up, and just being able to rise above all adversities.... then her future is a lot near to greatness rather than the opposite whom trolls always love to predict of her.
You bounce back and forth. Cook is faster than Tuohy but that doesn't indicate success according to you. But then the criteria you use to claim that Tuohy is better than other Americans is that she is better at a certain age? Tuohy has barely improved over the past 5 years. Every shoe company knows this. You can argue it but neither you nor I are making the deals. You can predict a large deal for her but I predict that it will be so small that she may not even continue with her running career after college.

no i dont, you just dont get it and think that the peak of tuohy and cook in hs are the same, they arent, you also cannot compare what they ran at certain ages because im pretty sure natalie cook was almost 19 when she ran her 5k record and tuohy was barely 16 years old when she ran her only 5k
tuohy ran her best times starting at sophomore year ages 15-16-17 with a thin, light but ripped body, ... she ran those times at the peak of her youth fitness .... then come the maturation and changes, injuries and many other things that goes from transitioning to a little girl to a young woman and the transition to a much bigger but stronger body ... for short adversities and injuries for at least a year or more .... not all fast girls get through this, not to be mean but .. claudia lane
then fast forward to now, she has come back on top of her game, fitness level better than ever but not even at peak fitness yet, she just turned 20 and now is in a much stronger body and cleaarly in a different built from she was in HS, in hs she looked like a young hassan, lean with just muscles but now her built is the same as elle purrier
tuohy barely improved in 5 years? i beg to differ
maybe 2 years but even on the 2 years she was still running PRs, katelyn still ran a record her junior year, then come senior year, trainings halted by injuries and obviously she did not look as fit and as thin as she was when she was a sophomore and junior but still she won everything ... outdoor hs, she didnt run coz of covid
college, first year, comes in injured, coming off from knee surgery, out of shape yet still ran pretty fast times, 9:19-9:20-top24 in xc-then PRd in the 1500 with 4:12 and has 15:47 5k
she improved, not just in phenomenal numbers but she improved all while on an honest transition
its one thing to continue to progress each year but another thing to peak at your youth ... mature as human, suffer injuries, deal w adversity and still get back to the top level and run faster than you ever did and continue to improve from that and even develop new skills
NAH, tuohy's nil contract is going to be bigger than some pro runner's contract for the reason that her name alone sparks A BIG DISCUSSION every time, any where, for just about any thing.

tuohy currently ranks in the top 10 in the US, and shes a 20 year old. she literally runs faster than some women running for new balance, adidas, nike and more ... needless to say she gets 30k+ likes or like 40k+ likes at most on her social media, she has fanpages, she has loyal fans and many more that could make her contract thicker than others.. oh did you know that almost 100,000 people clicked on my videos in just 90 days?? and thats just on my channel ... not even counting ncaa vids, flotrack vids of tuohy
tuohy could make a deal out of just her social media presence but nope shes also a force on track, it doesnt matter how she wasnt running PRs nor records when when she was a senior in HS (PS. its insulting to say she wasnt running prs in her senior year when her biggest race ever and most impressive XC win was when she was a senior and running her last HS race), what matters is that shes back in top shape, running fastest than ever, developing somewhat a pretty scary kick that ncaa runners and coaches acknowledges
you can write her off, theres always naysayers and jealous ones
and theres me who loves to reply back so i could sound like a broken record
flynn sports management who manages pro runners like elle purrier, ajee wilson, emily sisson, hocker, norris and many more ... is actually watching tuohy, not even just watching but keeping updated

You mean they are keeping track of the US U20 3000m record holder and double silver medalist at most recent NCAA?
if they were not keeping track of her, who would they be keeping track of?

Tuohy and Nico are both exciting young American runners. No need to compare them, I love watching and rooting for both.
Tell that to that him but I think he just feels sad that Nico Young is being overshadowed by Nur but that's OK, nico will get his time to shine.. Now that Nur has graduated
Nur did not graduate, he is a redshirt sophmore. And while Nur is running fantastic, just broke the 44 year old legendary Henry Rono 5k record running 13:06 and won 2 NCAA titles indoors, Nico is not far behind at 13:11 and he is still 19. Nur is quite a bit older.
katelyn tuohy owns the ncaa sophomore record at 5000m! he cant give you any names because theres simply no american female runner running 15:14 at age 20, the same way no one was running 15:37 at age 15 ..other than katelyn tuohy.
Touhy is 4 months older than Nico Young. I’m a big fan of Touhy, but her 5000m PR is 68 seconds slower than the WR while Young is only 36 seconds off of the men’s record. For the time being, we should be more excited about what Young has accomplished.
Young has had an uninjured, steady progression unlike Tuohy (better to compare her 2022 with his 2021 in that regard) and has benefitted from having arguably the most successful high school and one of the most successful college coaches in history, both at the peak of THEIR powers. It's not all luck, but luck counts for a critical percentage in sport, and he certainly has it. Both have a bright future and let's leave it at that.
The NCAA doesn't handicap the competition based on age or injury like the Tuohy fans hope for. The world does not either. Sorry. At 20 years old, Tuohy has to wear her big girl pants and compete without those benefits.
