Ryan Tuohy ran 9:55 for 3200m at Crusader Relays 2 weeks after running an impressive 10:06
It's his first season running, and the times on his first 2 races at the 3200m is pretty impressive, already broken some of the school's 8th grade records. Time checks in as the fastest 8th-grade time in the nation at high school level per Athletic.Net
9:55 is impressive, no doubt. Try checking milesplit...8th grader in GA broke the MS state record a few weeks back and ran 9:49. Three kids ran sub-10.
He indeed does has the fastest 3200 time according to Milesplit.
RANKTIMEATHLETE/TEAMGRADE1 9:55.98 RYAN TUOHY NY North Rockland 2026 2 9:58.35 TRAVIS BARNETT AL Holly Pond 2026 3 9:59.41 TYLER BLISSETT LA Highland Baptist Christian School 2026 4 10:00.27 BAILEY KENDRICK AL DAR 2026 5 10:00.40 CHARLES PEARSON AL Huntsville HS
an 11 seconds pr and going sub 10 indeed is an impressive time. he is in the top 3 8th graders in the nation already. did katelyn tuohy's school coach retire? is coached by the same coach?
Milesplit doesn’t typically get good west coast coverage. And athletic.net is hit or miss with people running unattached for their rankings for some reason.
Jaden Merrick ran 9:20 3k in 7th grade. He ran 15:34 for 5k XC in the fall. He is in 9:25 3200 shape right now. Another Iowa kid ran 4:29 this spring. I doubt Tuohy is top 50.
Oh wow, I don’t know why his time wasn’t entered yet.

On athletic.net someone has to manually connect unattached runners to a runner’s account. If you email them they will do it, but it is understandable the records don’t get cleaned up all the way.
It is a bit surprising they don’t regularly clean up the top 25 runners or so. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t. One of the top runners I know of recently ran unattached at a meet and one of his races at the meet was quickly connected to his account the other still isn’t.
There are a lot of populous states that do not run anything longer than a mile/1600 meters prior to 9th grade.
So, it is really difficult to assess just how good that time is. It is obviously a great time but it is really difficult to rate where it is at on a national level.

All these fast times mean is that some 8th graders are training as if they are already in HS. The advantage from an early start is gone by Sophomore year and that’s when comparisons become meaningful. Chapa, Virgin and Hulst starting running in 9th grade and all of them broke 9:00 as sophomores.
