Mantz can earn cult hero status if he takes care of two bits of business before moving to the marathon: bag the AR in the Half and prove he can hang with the top Africans and Europeans in XC. Becoming the first American to win the Great North Run wouldn't hurt either.
Closed in 55.93. Probably should have gotten closer to the leaders earlier. Still, a good performance.
I was at the meet near Colin's coach. After the race the coach wasn't happy. Someone asked him why he was upset at a 3:39, and he said the time was fine, but he wasn't happy with the way Colin ran the race. He said that Colin would have run a second or two faster if he had run the race better.
Colin said his goal was 3:55 in the mile at Pre. 3:39.5 converted to a mile minus 1 or 2 seconds gets him pretty close to 3:55.
Nia Akins skips the 1:59s entirely with 1:58.8! And the other A__e Wilson PBs with 1:58 low, shame our top 3 in the women's 800 is so stacked because we have depth as well.
Both Akins and Allie Wilson now have the world championship standard. So if any of the big three (Mu, Ajee Wilson, Rogers) have a bad race or get injured, then Akins or Allie Wilson might be able to sneak into 3rd place at USAs.
the end of that Lex Young interview was too funny... somehow he managed to sound cheerful and positive even as he stepped away to barf! great race, hope he feels better soon lol
I was at the meet. The good news is that Lex got better pretty quickly after that.
I missed on Lex Young's time by 0.05. 13:43.95 beats Ritz by 3/4 second and gets just past Lindgren. I would bet that Colin Sahlman can get close to Rupp's hs record of 13:37.
Maybe, but Colin won't be running anything over a mile the rest of the season.
Nia Akins and Laurie Barton were scheduled to run the 800 at both the Sound Running meet and Saturday's American Track League meet, which is being held at the same track. I found out that it wasn't a typo, they were both seriously thinking about running the 800 two days in a row.
After her 1:58, Nia Akins scratched from the American Track League meet, and I was told that Laurie Barton will probably scratch too.
Sadie Henderson, who was also listed in the 800 in both meets, scratched from Sound Running but is going to run the American Track League meet.
The biggest surprise entrant in the Sound Running meet was Mia Chavez, a high school senior who has run 2:08 for the 800. I'm not sure how she managed to get into the meet with that time, why she was planning to run an 800 at Sound Running when she has a CIF meet tomorrow, or why she DNS'd. Anyone know anything about that?
See some in the comments think he is "a d bag" for saying that he is not in shape yet and only running mileage while still running a 13:02, but it is what it is. He isn't a d-bag just fast and says it like it is. They are seen as very straight forward in Norway as well, but I kind of like it. Why just not give a straight answer.

Revealing interview
Attitude of a champion
Isn't his pr 12:48 too. I'd say I'm out of shape if that was me
The results confirm one thing. Cooper Teare needs to run the 1500m at USAs. The 5000m is getting stacked.
Correction to my post.
There is no 5000m heats at USAs. The 1500m is on day 1, 2 and 3 and the 5000m is on day 4.
The double is doable and I definitely can see Hocker and Teare make both teams.
Teare I could see, Hocker I doubt. He's never really looked great in a 5k (yeah he's mostly raced on tired legs, but still), and he'd have to beat one of Fisher, Klecker (if he runs it), Teare, Kincaid, Chelimo, Nur, etc.... which is a tall order.
