Is this the first year this race had prize money?
I now see they are saying they had $100,000 in prize money. That is a big amount and yet the winning times were really slow.
Breaking it down:
First Place: $5,000 + $5,000 bonus for current NYC residents.
Second Place $3,000
Third Place $1,000
Fourth Place $500
Fifth Place $250
Sixth Place $100
Seventh Place $100
Eighth Place $100
Ninth Place $100
Tenth Place $100
This is for the full and the half so that is
That is $15,250 for each race x 2 = $30,500 per sex. Traditionally that would be $61,000 in prize money. However it says "Awards will be given to the top three overall male, female and non-binary finishers"
So I should have said gender instead of sex.
So if we add non-binary for both races that is another $30,500.
By my math that brings it to $91,500 in prize money.
You also have to run under cut-off times to get the money.
1:10/2:30 for men
1:20/2:50 for women
1:15/2:45 non-binary
On the inclusion front should the non-binary cutoff be the same as the women's cut-off?
I don't think it would have made a difference on the money given out but it does look like one person won $10,000 in the half and one $10,000 in the full in the gender non conforming category.
In terms of results, I see they list men and women's categories together but the non-binary results are listed separately as GNCMarathon / GNC half.
There also is a DAA results division. Does anyone know what that is?
Personally I think it's easier to do prize money based on sex but it's their race and they're free to do it how they want.
