This was practically my EXACT response/logic to him something like YEARS ago with the 100/200 BS. His response to me was pretty much a carbon copy to you, as well. He's got some weird bias that doesn't even really make any sense. As long as he isn't a track coach screwing up kids running careers then I guess it's all moot to point out his idiocy.
I would like to point out, though -and to circle back to the actual source material of this thread on some level-, that Boling seems to have a distinct history and precedent of running his 100s at the equivalent of his 200s divided in half, +/- a few tenths either way. He essentially ran a 10.05 basic last week, which I would have argued meant he was ready to go around 20.10/20.15 this weekend in still conditions over 200. The fact that he went 19.92 INSTEAD (and into a head wind, to boot), could mean he made a leap over even his 100 in the last week or so, too, and he might be ready for sub 10 even in BASIC NOW, instead of just at his peak in a month or two. Orrrrrr, it could mean he's leaped in his 200 but still stagnant in his 100.
I've seen enough of the kid, even in this 19.92, to believe that his sweet spot is actually 100 meters. While the competition over 100 is typically more loaded and concentrated over 100 meters, which might mean (in Brutual-Whatley-Dino-Deni-Dummys opinion) he doesn't rank as highly or place as highly over 100 meters, certainly the way he tends to eat people up in the second half of his 100s but GETS eaten up (i.e. Fahnbulleh) at the tail end of 200s tells me his skill set acrually fits slightly better over 100 than 200. ESPECIALLY now that his start is LESS of a detriment to him (relatively speaking; it's still clearly not a strength per se).
Now, the 200 is loaded right now similarly to how the 100 typically is, so I think he's got as good of a shot over 100 at ranking (lists), qualifying (World's), and/or winning (NCAAs) as he does over 200. So the Whatley debate about white BS is moot for him, regardless. AND, if my 100/200 theory is right specifically in regards to Boling the INDIVIDUAL, then he may well already be 9.95 basic capable right NOW, which might mean he still has another couple hundreths to drop come peak time, and that then puts him RIGHT next to Micah for a legit shot at the NCAA DI title over 100 meters. But he's clearly gonna have to run him (Micah Williams) down and out-lean him to do it. Lotta conjecture there, so it's prolly pretty silly to even posit.
Bolings next 100 could be telling. I wonder if he even really plans to run it again before SECs. If he runs one more "rune up" 100 before the champs, and just runs another basic equivalent of 10.05ish while going all the way through the line, then maybe he IS developing into a better 200 guy. But if he CRUISES a 10.05 basic in that scenario or runs through the line and blows his PR out of the water....well. I won't say I told you so, but...
