after the outdoor championships, she has nothing left to do, the time is all hers, its summer break ... and we all know the first thing tuohy does when she goes back to her hometown is run, the difference with the usatf 5k is that its watched my millions .. her run in her hometown watched by her dogs ~
if she gets in, why would she even decline her biggest opportunity yet in her career.. its the trials for the Oregon22
There are plenty of opportunities for pro runners to still run a 5k. For example, the Sound Running meet in San Juan Capistrano on May 6 which will have a lot of pro runners running the 5k. And there are a number of other meets with a 5k.
Just because a meet isn't a "USATF event" doesn't mean you can't get a 5k qualifying time at it.
Having said that, I think that Tuohy's 15:14 will most likely get her in.
They dropped a lot of the distance standards this year. Last year's standards were made way back in spring 2019, long before everyone was wearing super shoes, and too many people qualified for the 2021 Olympic Trials.
USATF wants to avoid over crowded races at this year's USA championships.
other than usatf and college meets and sound running, are there any other meets with a fast 5k? i didnt know about sound running but yea their meets are pretty fast

Just off the top of my head, there's this one in Portland for pros in early June that has a 5k.
Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anywhere that has a complete list of all the pro meets in the United States. The sport of track and field isn't as organized as it should be.
All the pro coaches know about the meets well in advance, because the meet directors notify them. But people like me and you aren't on those mailing lists, so sometimes I don't even find out about a meet until a day or two before when it shows up on the front page of letsrun.
fellow nc state runners also had NO CHANCE of making the olympic team yet they ran, did they feel embarrassed losing? NO .. they were inspired and took home amazing experiences.
katelyn tuohy lost to her teammates, lost to ncaa runners, did it look like she was embarrassed? she was not .. after her every loss she came back stronger .. so i hope she really goes to the outdoor champs .. loses and comeback stronger than ever

I agree.. Most people competing in the Olympic Trials know that they have no chance of making the team. They are just happy to be there. Nothing to be embarrassed about. I'd go if I qualified even if I thought I'd finish in last place.
You asked why she wouldn't run. That would be the reason. So if she wouldn't be embarrassed, there is no reason that she wouldn't.
and why are you putting it like that? tuohy is no coward like you, and the word "embarrassed" is not even relevant in this topic nor thread
"embarrassed" no longer exist in tuohy's world, maybe when she was younger she felt losing was an embarrassment because people have put heavy pressure on her to win every single time by a big margin that even a gusty close win felt like an embarrassment.. when it was actually her greatest win. tuohy has now matured, she grew up.
we wouldn't be talking about tuohy qualifying for a world championship trials as a sophomore if such thing as losing embarrasses her .. Oly the prion, have some respect on that girl's name and what she has worked for. You should be embarrassed about your response.

I guess. It just has a negative connotation with me for a college sophomore.
A negative connotation? There are pro runners younger than her. Did you have a negative connotation about Nico Young finishing 9th in the final of the trials last year? Hasay ran the trials in high school.

wait there are younger pro distance runners than her that qualified? katelyn's 20 years old btw

i think astro is talking about over training and 2-week extension to the outdoor snz
katelyn's teammate hannah did that last year then she was not able to comeback from her usual self, then got injured ... other examples are also heymach and grace forbes who had a great season before the olympic trials then after trials they werent able to comeback at that level
but then you also cannot generalize it because obviously its different for each athlete, and some athletes also improved after the trials ... and personally i think, the extra 2 weeks of training does make a difference but it just depends if an athlete is strong enough to take the extra training and is disciplined enough to properly rest and recover in the summer while also slowly getting the mileage for cross country season
ps. nc state is known to be a really high intensity xc team, they run A LOT of miles
and even all of that, i still want to see tuohy compete in the outdoor championships!

Mu is still 19 now. Cole Hocker was a soph last year and younger than Tuohy will be this year when he made the team. Mary Cain was a high school senior when she made the team. Jager was a pro at Tuohy's age and made a WC final in the 5000. Want more examplea?
My point to Astro was that it is never a negative connotation for someone to compete in the US championship if they are good enough to qualify.
