LRC Note. This thread was started initially as a question, "when can we start the " too early Boston Marathon weather predictions" thread? but we've turned it into the official 2022 Bosto Marathon weather thread as we are less than a week out.
I'm getting so excited already. 3 years. I can't wait to high-five bekele!
I have run Boston in two of the worst years - 2007 and 2018 - and those of us who are going to run on 4/18/22 simply need to be prepared for ANYTHING. Boston - and the whole northeast (what do I know about cold weather? - I live in South Florida) appear to have had a cooler than usual late winter/now early spring. So - three weeks out, perhaps the odds are for a cooler or normal marathon weather day. Whatever it is, I just pray that it is not a bad replay of 2013 - and I was right at Exeter on Boylston when the first one went off. My most sincere thanks to all the Boston Police and security people and systems who keep all of us - runners and spectators - safe. And I love it when jealous people call us "hobby joggers". We're there - and you're not. Peace and love.
Current forecast is for a high of 61 in Hopkinton with 7 mph SW winds. Lock it in-- 16 days out, you can count on this forecast with 98.993% confidence.
Weather. com is now saying the night of 4/17, going into 4/18 am, will hit a low of 47°F with a 30% chance of ran and a westerly wind of 10-15 mph. Not too bad, if that doesn't change (which it will). Not predicting a 4/18 high temp yet.
Would winds "W at 10-15 mpw" be a tailwind on the marathon course, Bostonians?
Boston Globe's David Epstein with the advanced outlook:
"There are growing signs that the third week of the month will bring some of the warmest weather we’ve seen this spring, perhaps several days in the 70s." Yecchhh.
But maybe by "third week of the month" he means the end of next week, which is when all the other forecasts are also calling for warm weather. Weather.com is right now calling for cooler weather to move back in over Marathon weekend and favorable conditions on race day.
I guess to answer OP's question, it's still too early.
Weather. com's "10 day" forecast actually goes 10 days out. Right now it's saying the night before (and into the morning of 4/18) will be a low of 44F, 31% chance of rain and a 4/18 high temp of 56F with 40% chance of rain. WSW tailwind of 12 mph all day. 10 days out, it has a high likelihood of changing multiple times.
