This study uses mortality data from the National Center for Health Statistics to assess whether alcohol-related deaths increased during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lol. What other nonsense will you lobotomized lefties believe? At what point do you say, "hmmm, this may not be right"? If CNN, or one of the myriad of other propaganda outlets tells you it is safe to walk off that 100 foot cliff would you do it? Since you have such complete trust in state programming. Are you that "gone"? 0 thinking for yourself. Because it is so close to being that absurd.
The million COVID deaths does not include additional suicides and drug and alcohol overdoses, plus car crashes, and homicides. Excess deaths are considerably more than 1 million during this time.
The increase in alcohol-related deaths in 2020 was 21,000. COVID deaths were more like 350,000. So, the 18.8% increase in deaths in 2020 was mostly due to COVID.
The life expectancy drop was due much more to the increases in death rate for people under 50, despite the fact that they died at much lower rates, because each of their deaths moves the bar a lot more. For instance, in a population with a life expectancy of 78, one death of a 28 year old lowers life expectancy by 50 years divided by the population (or more if this is a more sophisticated statistic including the higher life expectancy remaining for someone who has reached 28 years old), whereas a death of an 83 year old expected otherwise to die at 89, reduces it by 0/pop., or 6/pop., however that's calculated. More than enough younger people died to bring the life expectancy down a lot.
Remember when you and others were pushing that on average people who died of Covid lost 10 years of life based on a crappy math analysis done by a grade a covid fearmonger. Didn't age to well did it.
to your logic, if most of the people who extra million people who died in the last two years were going to die soon anyway.....the we should expect the death rates to PLUNGE this year, right? We should have a million less death than normal since all those pople simply died early. So rather than 2,900,000 deaths, we should have 1,900,000 deaths this year.
You want to take that bet and check back when the results are in?

Here is a measure from February 18, 2021 by which point 20+ million years of life were lost due to COVID in 81 countries. That would have been on the order of 8-10 years per person.
