In my now deleted thread (shoutouts to LRC censorship) I highlighted the hipocrisy and delusion of Yakob fanatics regarding this topic.
In order to damage control in the face of a loss, theyre attempting to push this narrative that his 2nd place finish while sick is everything but a defeat. On the contrary, it's a sign that a wr is on the horizon, and of course Tefera's win doesnt count.
But when it comes to other athletes struggling with injury or subpar performances uncharacteristic for them, no such concessions are made for them. When Timothy lost once to Yakob, it's "the passing of the torch." When Cheptegei had one off-day, it's "Yakob takes down wr holder."
I don't know what any of this means. Tefara is the indoor world champion whether JI was covid + or not. I am sure many runners through history have been a little off due to a minor virus and never knew it, because we weren't obsessive about testing. Congrats to Tefara, but good luck when JI is healthy.
How could COVID affect his performance if it does not exist? But now he's the GOAT for getting 2nd with COVID. I'm so confused by the news I get from LetsRun.
Corona virus-19 and it's subtle variants are no longer novel to humans. A person testing positive for covid-19 today has a range. A range from 100% benign, absolutely zero symptoms to a slim possibility of death, especially for 80 plus year olds with co-morbidities. Obviously J.I. was far closer on the spectrum to zero symptoms than death. Corona virus IS the Common Cold. I am not going to make excuses for a young and healthy covid positive person in 2022.
Athletes who were favored to do well sometimes say stupid sh!t when they lose. Eg. Eamonn Coghlan after his 4th place finish, 1976 Olympics 1500m final blamed his 4th place finish on shaving his legs the night before 1500m final due to itchy legs keeping Coghlan up all night.
You paranoid person afraid of your shadow. List the number of 21 year old athletes with height to weight ratio of less than 2.25 pounds per inch sans co-morbidities dying from corona virus.

Yup, so not novel that in 2021 it was the third leading cause of death.
If he were in the realm of zero symptoms, then why did he feel "like complete shiite"?
+1
It has already been stated that the incubation time is 2-3 days with omicron.
I had the omicron a month ago. I probably was infected in an over crowded ski gondola a friday at noon.
In the sunday afternoon 2 days later I got terrible pain in the top of my head. In the night the pain was even worse. Next day I got bad pain in my throat which lasted for 4-5 days. I was also unusual tired in these days.
I am rather certain I couldn´t have been on my best in a race from sunday and onwards.
The Ingebrigtsens guess Jakob was infected on the airplane to Belgrade.

Textbook covid. The only sickness that 98% have no or mild symptoms. The only sickness that you need a test to find out you have it. The only sickness that you can run a 3:32 1500.
World-wide government induced hysteria. The sky is falling.
