Nuguse seems very undisciplined for someone of his talent in the relays.
I rewatched the video. Their miler went out in 51.7 !!! 5:34.7 at the exchange and 400 in was at 5:26.4. He ended up running 4:06
Yeah. That's what I have seen as well. He should stick to competing at 300Ms. He literally walks sometimes jog the last 75m.
I was just asking about this another thread....I disagree, Bush stayed in her lane and stopped. It's not her responsibility if another runner cuts into her lane. Really surprised by that ruling...I wonder if they can appeal?
Who was running NC's last leg? Did Wayment run for BYU?
I wonder the same, but I can't say I know exactly what she is required to do. Perhaps justa judgement call by the officials in that she stayed in lane 3 and it turned out lanes 1-2 had cleared. Shaw anchored for NC St and ran well (4:36.9). Alder anchored for BYU and ran ok (4:38). NC St lost a lot of time on the 800 leg and BYU lost time on the 1200.
The rule expressly requires the runner who passes off the baton to stay in their lane.
ARTICLE 6. Incoming and outgoing competitors, after exchanging the baton,
must remain in their lanes or established paths until the course is clear in order
to avoid contact with the other competitors. When interference is no longer
possible, incoming and outgoing runners should move to the inside.
Also:
SECTION 8. Relay Racing Violations
The same rules and penalties with reference to flagrant infractions or illegal
assistance that apply to other track events also shall apply to relay racing.
In addition, the referee, after consulting with the appropriate officials, shall
disqualify a relay team when:
g. After passing the baton, a runner veers out of the passing lane or from a
straight course and flagrantly impedes an opposing runner;
So assuming these are still the rules in the video Bush did exactly what the rules specify, to stay inside the handoff lane and not veer off. The VT runner needed to look where she was going and veered into the lane NC State handed off in in direct violation of the rules. So again assuming these are the rules the NCAA disqualified NCSt for following the letter of the rules.
Just to add one more thing, the lineup order was wrong, and by a significant margin. The VT runner was lined up between the NCSt and Virginia runners. However the Virginia handoff occurred almost immediately after the NCSt handoff while the VT runner had to wait several more seconds with the outgoing Virginia runner still on the track above her when the handoff occurred. I'm not sure why this happened but the mistake in the handoff order caused the collision. All in all I think NCSt got screwed out of an AA result.
Good tactics by Garcia Romo. Sat on the rail the whole time in the lead. Some of the other guys probably ran a faster pace overall but ended up running longer since they were in lane 2 the whole race.
What just happened in the 60? I'm watching without sound and it looked like Bowling and another guy stopped as if there was a false start. But then everyone else continued the race. One guy looked back at the end too. Did the officials shoot off the gun twice?
Looks like the blocks registered someone leaving too early, the start system fired off some beeps, but it didn't get the starting gun to shoot again. Couple guys recognized the sound and pulled up, but the rest of the field didn't. Just a mess.
Thanks. It looks like they're getting ready to re-run the race.
I get a screen shot on ESPN 3 but nothing happens. I have Sling TV. Anybody got ideas? Or another way to watch?
