Yiannis Kouros the greatest ultrarunner of all time is BACK !! now at 49 yrs old he is running in the Australian 6-Day race (Nov 20 - 25th). Although it is arguably the greatest ever field assembled Korous just ran 254.4km(158mile, or 6 marathons) on Day 1 and has about 50km on anybody else.

1983 His first ultra. The Spartathalon, a 250 km race from Athens to Sparta. He won by over three hours, 21:51(CR). Yiannis stated, "People expected the athletes to come in at 10 a.m. I came in at five. Nobody believed me. I had to wake up the officials.
1984 His first 6-day race (New York) he broke George Littlewood's 99 year old record with two hours remaining. He finished with 635 miles, 1023 yards.

1988 1000 mile WR. 10 days, 10:30'35". Beat previous WR by over 34 hours.(en route bettered his six-day WR to 639 miles, 622 yards)

1997 24 Hour WR: 303.506 Km (= 7.2 marathons, avg.3hr 20min (4min 45sec/km))
2002 He ran a 100 mile race in 12hrs, 35mins (taking three age group WRs) and covered 284.07kms for a 24hr Taipei race (breaking six age group WRs). Kouros also ran in a 48hr race in Surgeres, France (436.702km, with seven age group records)
2005 Sept/Oct. Ran double Spartathlon(not in the actual race), reached Sparta in 21:27 and immediately began the return to Athens. He returned to Athens at precisely midnight Sat/Sun 2/10 in 53 hours and 43min total. Winner in the actual Spartathlon, LUKAS Jens 24:26:39.
NOTES:He holds the top 13 24Hr distances ever run and the top 5 48Hr. He has offically run the Spartathlon 4 times and these are still the fastest 4 times in event.
