I bet it's because Gjert is a dick. The brothers probably said that he can either be their father or the coach, but not both.

Eh? Can't give us a bit more explanation for those of us who can't read Norwegian and who don't want to be misled by Google Translate?

Nobody knows what illness this is yet. But a qualified guess would be cancer. He is approaching 60, they dont saying anything about the length of this sickness leave - makes me suspect cancer. We must just hope he will recover after some months. But the headlines says he is stepping down... usually mean for good.
Will probably be involved in their training programs either way
If this is the case I hope Henrik gradually will take over as head coach. But I hope this might be mental burnout that he will recover from. Working a job, being coach, writing a book and being a public figure (and possibly being consultant for tons of coaches) cant be easy for him.
Hope Gjert is not seriously ill, but I would have thought that it shouldn't be a problem for the brothers to train themselves now with their collective experience. I doubt if this will make any difference to Jakob's performances, as far as the coaching is concerned.

There isn't more to it than this:
Little sister Ingrid Ingebrigtsen ran 1500 meters at Bislett in June last year in the time 4.42.04 - well below the seniors' NM [Norwegian Championships] requirement of 4.44.99, but has thus after November 2021 chosen to stop completely with athletics.
4:42 is almost, but not quite a sub 5 mile. Ingrid must have figured it's just too hard to run sub 5, and given up.
Sorry, it's a big article but it seems very understandable with chrome direct translate from nor to eng.
Anyway, Gjert is on medical leave for now and the brothers will take care of the training, i'm sure he will be back.
The biggest news for me was that Ingrid quit, i had high hopes for her.
But the most important thing is that she is happy.
Not surprising for the sister. The lifestyle they demand is not for everyone.

Aha, thanks. Not much to see here then, other than Gjert has taken a step back, which is very understandable given his age and the fact that three sons who have around 3 decades of collective world class experience don't really need him as a full-time coach at this point.

What type of lifestyle does he demand?

Gjert quit, now you must love him even more!
Pretty sure this is another "diversion blow" from Inger Family, knowing the concentration of rivals on some subject (Cheruiyot, Kiplimo, Katir and the most important Berihu Aregawi).
No problem if this remove some "pressure" on these antagonists ... but we stay sharp and well in guard.
Be respectful, and stop speculating. When you don't know any information about a subject then Its usually smart to shut up. Use your small brain capacity on something else.
I watched an episode of their show and Gjert looked to have lost a lot of weight. He said he was fast walking three hours a day. How does a guy with a job, coaching, and family find time to do that? He comes across as OCD. A few months away and reset is probably what the doctor ordered. Didn’t Salazar have a heart attack around the same time in his coaching career.
As for Ingrid, she’s a young teenager. Give her a season away and don’t be surprised if she comes back. The lack of structure from no running will seem great at first, however, likely missed after a while. Anyways reality tv is not good for the psychology of children. And from a very young age she’s had the world watching her with expectation of being the next great Ingebrigsten. That’s too much for a kid imo.
Jakob needs an advisor not a coach anymore. The guy has trained perfectly for over a decade. Thanks mostly to learning from his brothers mistakes. I don’t see him dropping back one bit.

My guess is another burnout. He has suffered that before with a lasting sick leave. Jakob's olympic gold took a toll on him. In december he toured bookshops to sign his book.
He's probably never recovered from the devastation of proclaiming that Tim would never beat Jakob again and then Tim doing so in the very next race. So now he has gone home.

I think he is the man for the job. With his magic he will make Jakob run some world records.
