D1 doesn’t just involve running… I don’t know about the school but maybe they are good at other sports… going d1 is also a commitment by the school to meet certain specs, sports sponsored, crowd minimums, funding and scholarship requirements ect … maybe they will be pouring a lot more money and scholarships into sports and trying to be competitive now?
Because the decision has nothing to do with track and cross country...and you are right, any team can make the jump, provided they get an invite from an NCAA Division I Conference.
Their board of trustees is supposed to vote on it next month. They might all vote, "No this is a stupid idea"
