So four guys and five girls and a bunch of slowpokes.

This race rejected many fast runners over the past month saying the field was full, even rejecting athletes willing to pay their own way.

Stupid based upon the weak depth of these fields.

Open registration closed only last week, so how could they have been rejecting athletes willing to pay their own way?

Were they just not letting any more people into the elite field? They'll still put you in the first coral if you can show a fast time and you can then easily line up in the first row behind the elites. Same start time, no separate gun.

Elite field. I’m talking a 28:16 10k guy and a 46:12 10 mile guy and a 46:25 10 mile guy.

Yea, if someone's going to pay their own way the only difference between the elite field and not is 1) ability to do a stride or two from the starting line and 2) a fancy bib with your name on it. Otherwise anyone in the top corral can be one step behind the elite field on the line. I don't see why people would get all up in arms about it unless it's a pride thing, in which case go finish top 10 and show them what's up.

Is that true for Manchester? Do you have a source? I don't see anything on their website indicating that only the elite field is eligible for money, and in fact they pay out up to the top 25 finishers ($100 gift certificate for 25th) and the elite field is not 25 deep. The only prize money that seems to have any string attached is the king/queen of the hill, where the winner is the first up the hill who also places top 10 (to avoid someone sprinting 2 miles and then jogging it in).

As a manager, I was informed this by the ERC.

You're full of sh!t as there are more prizes (top 25 men and women) than there are elites, and that's before you count the ~100 age group and other awards. And it says nothing about prizes only being for elites, just that top places are based on gun time.

In other news, it looks like we're still substantially down in number of participants. Besides 2020 (virtual only), this is the first time since 1995 that registration has been under 10,000 and the first time since 1990 it's been below 9,000.

A ton of races are requiring vaccines now, I think it's time for you to accept that.

If your beef is specifically that the elite field has to have vaccine proof where the normal field doesn't: This is a race where 85% or more of the participants are from the local area, where vaccination rates are high and case spread is low when compared to the rest of the country. It makes perfect sense to apply different rules to the elite field where 95% are coming from other states or countries.
