What happened?!
What happened?!
Good thing he skipped Tokyo!
Can't hang with the big boys in xc I guess. The thing is, he's hardly the reason why Notre Dame did so poorly. So much for them being "incredibly deep" and "able to hang with the best"

After a summer doing 200s in 26.xx, doing 300s in 38.xx and doing 400s in 56.xx, Nuguse was not in top 10K XC shape. So what.
So basically slow as molasses?

It has been stated, Emil Zatopek was the first man known to combine logging 100 miles per week while also doing workouts. Since Zatopek, most elite 5000m to Marathon men log 100 plus miles per week. There are some 1500m men who log as much as 100 miles per week, most elite 1500m men like Nuguse log (65 to 85) miles per week. Since Nuguse is young and he was tapering for Olympics, no chance Nuguse was logging close to 100 plus miles per week this summer. Nuguse obviously used XC to start getting back into shape. I assume you are at least high school age. Surely you know of high school 800m specialists who take the summer off and use fall XC to slowly get back into shape. Nuguse should be fine.
Most of the guys who ran late in the summer ran poorly yesterday or just not quite where they should’ve been

....except Naguse didn't actually run into "late summer"
In fact, he bagged even running in Tokyo so he wouldn't injure himself and hinder his fall xc season@ Notre Dame!
It seems the whole team took this tact this fall and barely raced at all until this dud of a "performance"
Notre Dame XC is just like their football team: over-rated with HYPE. They got excited from a diluted 2020 COVID runner-up that was obviously fake.

But a bit more active summer than Cooper, and Cooper was worse Saturday.

It is reported the injury occurred right around Aug 1st, at which time he "was unable to do strides".

Then too it was not exactly hot during the race but it was pretty humid and I was feeling that a bit on my run when the sun wasn't covered by clouds around race time in Florida, albeit a bit hotter where I was.
The ND men bit off more than they can chew early in that race. They wouldn't have won anyway, but they were not good enough to have all those guys up there early on. The pace was way too hot for them. They paid the price. The team would have done much better if they ran within their abilities early on.
If you believe the injury first occurred on August 1st you need to get your head checked. The injury popped up at least two weeks prior to the Olympics. Yared and his coach selfishly decided to take the free trip to Toyko. They agreed that his fifth year of cross country was more important than racing at the Olympics..... The Olympics....? Yared is an Olympic qualifier but far from an Olympian. The dude lacks heart and honestly, respect for the sport. If you are unfit to race you shouldn't race.

Perhaps you can offer proof of this?
Morgan McDonald admitted he went to the Olympics injured but still went to the Olympics and ran because its the Olympics
