Wow. You named the first two shoes I ever ran in in 1980. Both were purchased at a very small discount sneaker store that is still in business
The first were the OG Bobo’s — Chuck Taylor knock-offs. My recollection is they were Keds brand. I ran in them for about two weeks while training for a Diet Pepsi 10k that some of the Catholic School kids in my neighborhood were running and got me to sign up.
The second were the Blue and White Brooks Vantage. My Dad bought them for me the day before the aforementioned 10k because he was impressed I had stuck with it for two weeks and was actually going to run it — and more importantly, he didn’t want me “to look like a Tinker in front of the neighbors.”

I liked the old Adios Boost. Wish I had stocked up on a dozen pairs or so.
I just retired my last Adios 3 (boost). Great shoe.
Adidas Supernova Glides with Boost (around 2015-2018) - great recovery shoe. Adidas completely missed the mark when the Solar Glides replaced them.
Adios 3, another good one.
Currently, my favorite of all time is the Saucony Endorphin Speed. We'll see how long they last me in my rotation.

Interesting--the Clifton 3 is one of my all-time favorites, and I ran through many pairs. I tried and returned a pair of 4s, which were awful, and ran through a pair of 7s, which were just okay.

Clifton 3 didn't feel that bad but its the only shoe that made my knees hurt.
Agree with several people that Terra TCs are right up there, but I'd also add Sock Trainer/Racer.
I think, though, I'd say Tiger Marathons, because they were the first really lightweight shoes, with nylon uppers, that I had. Compared to the clunky leather upper shoes I'd worn before, it felt like flying running in them.
Adidas Oregon was the best running shoe I ever wore.
Adidas Boston Classic
Adidas Supernova Classic
ASICS Hyper Speed. Way back when and still today.

Could be. My post probably contributed to that perception but I’m only 44 and started running in 1987 as a 5th grader.
What younger posters may not realize is that running shoes as they exist today weren’t really a thing until the 70s. Track spikes existes as did sneakers but shoes truly specialized for running were few and far between until the late 60s and early 70s and weren’t widely distributed. I ran my first 10k in a pair of tennis shoes and I don’t think it was that uncommon. My first pair of real running shoes was a women’s model because they didn’t really make running shoes in child sizes.

I just pulled my last pair of these from the closet. Love running in them. One of the best, yes.
In the 80s I ran in an Avia shoe with weird rubber fingerlike things on the outsole. Red, I think. Loved those shoes. Just the right cush but responsive spring. Can't remember what they were called.

Nike Terra T-C
Oddly enough, though, I swear the Skechers GoRun 7 is the same shoe, done better.
Not necessarily. Running since the late 70s, and my answer might be the first Peg Turbo.
Returning to form, I also liked the Nike Air Edge a lot.

Also not necessarily. I’m rather untalented and have been running very unimpressively for decades. But I still love good running shoes, and especially cool racing shoes.
Nike Lunaracer 3
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
