I was surprised to just now realize how much weaker my left leg is compared to my dominant right. If I try to do single leg “jump runs”, my left stride length is tiny and barely half that of my right. I’m also noticeably uncomfortable repeatedly jumping on my left leg compared to my right because of the fear of injuring it. My left is also the leg that keeps developing some niggling injury every few weeks and am currently nursing some kind of vague, mild ankle joint pain as well as heel pain there, both bearable enough to do low-intensity runs but not low enough to run with joy. Right now, I’m not sure how much of the weakness is because of the recovering injury and how much has just intrinsically been there for a long time.
How asymmetric is your strength when in great shape without any injury? I assume some asymmetry is common, but how significant is the difference in how high you can jump or how long you can single-leg stride on the left vs. right?
