Subject goes without explanation. It's clear that there are many high level figures in the running community (Molly Huddle, Steve Magness, Kara Goucher) that hold Letsrun as this "hub of toxicity" message board.
Often they cite this as a place for anonymous racism, misogyny, transphobia, etc...
I'm probably an above average running nerd who checks letsrun close to once or twice a day and very rarely see anything besides occasional trolling and sometimes poor comments in controversial threads. The most "racism" I see is people who blindly speculate elite kenyan athletes of doping. The most "transphobia" I see is people arguing over trans women not competing against biological women. I don't think either of these opinions should be shocking to hear on a message board about running.
I think most comments that would be cited as misogyny are less attacks on women as a whole and more attacks on specific female athletes. I now suggest you go to any social media type message board, comment thread, or post with any type of pro level or elite level athlete and read the things people say. Lebron James probably has people say worse things about him then you ever will in your entire life. People post pictures of Tom Brady kissing his kids to make fun of him. People are going to sh** talk you, criticize you, and call you terrible things online the second you gain a following. "Letsrun should be deleted because I don't like what people post on there, because it offends me, because ...."
No letsrun shouldn't be deleted. No letsrun isn't a right wing cess pool. The majority of threads aren't bad, most bad threads get taken down, and you can deal with someone having an opinion that isn't what you believe or saying something mean about you.
