Can anyone recommend shoes that are good for daily training, like 7 miles a day, that are fast? I don't want to feel like I'm running in sand. I need good protection from the road and would like a high drop like over 8 mm.

you might like puma.
nothing from Nike at the moment.
Saucony freedom 4 is very underrated.
Brooks Hyperion Tempo
Saucony Endorphin Speed
Hyperion tempo is one of the most comfortable shoes I have worn. At 175 lbs I noticed a feeling of bottoming out on long runs. Probably better for lighter runners.
Endorphin speed, would be a lot faster if it wasn’t so squishy. Too much heel for forefoot striking in my opinion. Lots of people love it.
Solarglide is pretty responsive and firm, yet cushioned.
old boston, adios , nb1400/1500
Skechers GoMeb Speeds or Razor. Hyperburst is a nice fast foam and plenty cushioned at lower stack.
Mach 4.
The adios 6, SL20.2, Boston 9 (not so much the 10) from adidas would be somewhat on the firmer side and definitely feel like faster shoes while still having just enough cushioning for seven miles per day. They would all also be in the 8+ mm drop range. They are all around the same level of cushioning, but the Boston 9 has boost, the SL20.2 has lightstrike (their new premium foam), and the adios has both lightstrike and lightstrike pro (lighter and more responsive than lightstrike)
There's also the Saucony Endorphin Speed if you want to try something with a plate (this one is nylon so it's not overly rigid, but still not very soft). It has an 8mm drop as well.
The Hyperion Tempo is similar to the Skechers Razor due to the foam, but the Hyperion Tempo has a higher drop of 8mm compared to the Skechers at 4mm (both are great shoes though).
My personal favorite is the discontinued New Balance Sonic FuelCore V2. I believe the new Rebel V2 to be the closest thing to it in the current lineup. I plan to purchase a pair of the Rebels once I’ve burned through my current pair of Sonics, the new pair I just got off Ebay, and any remaining Ebay stock I can find after that (both of the recent pairs came from the same seller). 6mm drop for both shoes but I doubt you’ll notice much difference aside from possibly the first run.
I tend to run heavy on my feet yet find that shoes with a higher stack don’t make me less achy and slow me down (New Balance Beacon for example). Going with less cushion/structure in a shoe definitely makes me ache more (hips especially) so I avoid those shoes at all costs (890v7 for example).
another vote for hyperion tempos. light, snappy, and comfortable. i have a mild neuroma in my right foot and they don't feel any worse than the adrenalines that i rotate with.
Saucony Endorphin Speed
NB rebel V2 or fuelcell TC elite
Probably best to visit a good running store and try lots of shoes. Some stores will let you run on the sidewalk; otherwise, do some strides on the floor inside. You will should be able to narrow down the best shoes for you pretty fast.
Brooks Launch. I believe the current version (8) is a little softer by no means though mushy. Launch has a mild rocker and is easy to run in, plyos, full outsole for trail, etc.
One thing I've liked about the series is the way it has a horseshoe heel(wide) and then goes into a curved arch to allow a natural roll(something helpful for supinators). Hyperion tempo I'd save for track work
+1 for Hyperion Tempos. Light, fast and durable. I've got 450 miles on mine and they still feel brand new, and I normally have to toss shoes around the 300 mark.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
