Congratulations to Shalane. I hope she stays healthy through her 6 marathon challenge. Maybe she'll be motivated to race another major next year.

Did she retire too soon? A respectful time if she was just hobby hogging for her five 'Thons in 42 days.
Since people "retire" for all kinds of reasons, I say she didn't retire too soon. She's 40 years old. She probably didn't want to just gradually see her times get slower and slower despite destroying her body with the training necessary to compete at the same level she had been.
I'm always ok with people retiring. Retirement is a great gift.

Don't forget the burritos.
Well, Running Cult Member mentioned "steroid cream" quite eloquently, but yes, the burrito diet, good point.

You’d think the American feed would have mentioned her. I never looked up the leaderboard since I was a zombie watching the race so early. That neg split was incredible. Looking forward to the mile by mile stats of some guy dressed as a shark running for “charity” at NYC.
they mentioned her first 5K split but not after that IIRC. An impressive run to follow.
How many Frauleins did you catch the last few miles? How many caught you? Did you have some bad sauerkraut the night before the 'Thon?
No way a 1:14 second half.
Isn't 1:13:59 a Trials Qualifier?

1:14:50 2nd if you look at her splits numbnuts.
No pressure, that's the way to do it.
It will be interesting to see how see holds up for the rest after a decently quick time like this. Maybe her plan is to run this one quicker and the next 5 in the 2:50s.

USA age group records? Sinead Diver is 44 now and long way ahead

On which feed? I don’t hear t on NBC. I heard the flo stream was different. Plus I had the German stream simultaneously but I don’t know what Shalane is in German so I might have missed it.
Shalane in Detroit, is the same as Shalane in Düsseldorf.
Are masters WR contenders subject to drug testing?

People are just plain @ssholes here anymore. There is no reason to respond like that. None.
Gwen Jorgensen's Youtube video from a few months ago had Flanagan doing mile repeats with other elites. I recall she did all but last 2 or something like that. She is definitely doing more than recreational running.[/quote]
It must be a bummer for Gwen... Shalane's time is all she could do similarly decked out in her Bowerman kit as an in-season, non-retired professional runner.

It was the NBC feed, just an aside comment towards the beginning. I heard the German feed had separate cameras on the top German runners, I usually don't like when they pull away from the lead pack but it would have been cool to have that for americans as a separate feed on peacock. Kinda like they have separate field event feeds sometimes, one for the chase pack and one for top American each gender would be nice
All this is doing is taking the heat off the hard questions she should be answering over how a steroid was found in one of her athlete's urine.
Shalene and Jerry should both be serving bans right now.
Well when someone posts a stupid comment like he did when he could have simply looked it up...🤷🏻♂️
Her time is probably due to her steady diet of Bowerman Burritos with extra pig offal

Not possible. You can only have so many cameras on the course given that they need to be either on a bike or truck. Host broadcaster is going to give priority to home athletes. You might find the same at the US majors
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
