My first marathon is coming up and I expect a huge temperature drop from when the bus drops us off possibly hours before the race to the end of the race. I expect to go from sweats and a stocking cap when we are dropped off to shorts and a singlet by five miles in.
What’s the normal approach for dealing with this?
I think it will be cold enough that clothing needs will come in three phase: 1) cold period before the clothing drop off deadline; 2) the next hour before the race after the clothing deadline (still cold); 3) the first bit of the race where I’ll still want some warm clothes; and 4) the last 20 miles.
What’s normal? Should I bring a disposable beanie, gloves and jacket to toss at a drink station along the way? Just embrace the cold?
