You can really get a lot more miles out of your shoes if you run in the grass in your bare feet.
It can actually make substantial difference. Had a teammate in college who had a pair of shoes he only ever wore to run on the turf on our indoor athletic facility. He put about 850 miles on a pair of pegasus 35's over the course of a few years.

When I get to approx. 300 miles on most shoes, they become my grass/trail shoes (I'm at about 50/50 crete/soft surfaces) where I'll keep them for at least another few hundred miles.
