What says you?
What says you?
Depends on what you want to do?
Best for running?
Best for deep sea fishing?
Best for retiring?
Best for clubbin and sexin up da bitties?
Mid-size?
Dallas is the #9 largest city in the US and Phoenix is #5, moved ahead of Philadelphia recently. Is Chicago "mid-size" too?
Boulder bro
Run from narracists: DeSantis and Abbott !!
Nothing midsize about these suburban disaster zones you mentioned.
What do you most want to be near, exactly?
I've been to all and each one is horrible.
Gun to my head I'd take Arizona but keep looking.
Miami will be underwater in 20 years
Phoenix will just be on fire for half the year soon enough
The remaining two will still be hot

Kind of a weird choice, but I'll bite.
Re: Miami, Atlanta, Dallas, or Phoenix
If I HAD to choose an order right now, it would be this:
1) Phoenix - The biggest problem there is the air pollution. That's not insignificant, so for anyone with asthma or other breathing issues, I would NOT recommend that. The positives there are that most of the year the weather is pretty good. Yes, it gets unbearably hot 3 months of the year, but if you want to train, you COULD have a treadmill for those super hot days, OR run in it anyway (many do that), OR drive up to Flagstaff and stay there for a bit if there's a super hot period in the Phoenix area. If you are still working, this might not be an option, but I have considered moving to Phoenix and the surrounding area after retiring, and that would be my plan...got a week where it will be crazy hot...I'll just head to Flagstaff...or hell, even San Diego. It's only a 5 hour 27 minute drive.
2) Atlanta - Very progressive southern city. Again with the heat, but 9 months of great weather is worth it. The traffic is bad, so I would find a way to minimize driving if possible. A former company of mine was based in Alpharetta, just outside of Atlanta, and I went there a few times. I could be happy living there...again, as a retired person. Things would be different if I had to have a full-time job there and commute to a work place.
3) Dallas - I don't know as much about Dallas as I do Phoenix and Atlanta, but this goes 3rd on my list, because no way in hell am I going to live in Miami.
4) Miami - Florida sucks hard, and Miami is the suckiest city in that sucky state, so no way, no how for me. If I had to live in Florida, it would be in Central Florida away from massive hurricane damage, and I would visit the beach frequently, but not in Miami. Fortunately, I don't have to live in Florida and will choose not to.
Miami has no future.
I picked Phoenix, haven't regretted it 15 years later.
Phoenix is all sprawl, hot and gross. you will start to regret as soon as Colorado stops giving you guys water.
Atlanta
I’ve spent a lot of time in Miami and Atlanta. I’m not a fan of either one of them. Miami is crazy expensive, unless you’re coming from LA, SF or NY.
Dallas is okay, but they have a lot of extreme weather, hail and tornadoes.
Haven’t been to Phoenix since I was a kid, but hear it’s nice.
Check out Tampa/St. Pete if you’re thinking FL. Asheville is a cool town with a lot of outdoor activities. Nashville suburbs are cool, but the downtown is a bit of a party sh$@show.
All depends on what you’re looking for.

I agree that Miami sucks. Tampa hasn’t been hit by a major hurricane in the 35 years I’ve lived here. Irma was the only real scare, and it was basically a bad thunderstorm here. It’s about the same odds as an earthquake in Northern California. The difference is you have at least a 72 hour warning that a hurricane is coming, so you can evacuate and avoid danger.
Central FL is hotter than the coastal cities, and your still not safe from a major hurricane. Why live in FL if you aren’t close to the beach?
Phoenix is the only one worth considering. Downsides are it is running out of water, way too hot in the summer, air pollution is bad.
Miami - nice if you stay outside the trouble. Lots to do.
Atlanta - too much trouble.
Dallas - desert
Phoenix - desert with awful people
I would not want to live in any of those.
DTOWN baby!!! there are a ton of jobs, and several companies have moved their headquarters here (toyota, tesla, PGA, american airlines, southwest, etc). it’s not the best place for running, but your overall quality of life here will be great. Dallas sports aren’t too shabby either! Nothing beats the lone star state!!
