Is is because she is a new balance athlete and this is a Nike sponsored event?

There are some other sponsored athletes there- Lyles ( adidas), Degrasse ( NB) but she probably just needed a rest
I suppose. I know NB pays big for gold medal wins. Rumor is she has a hefty contract with them. You figured she would take advantage of her post-Olympic physical state and keep the wins coming...
She ran 4. Races this year. She. Neededa break

Degrasse is puma bro
Probably just tired and didn’t wanna race again. She has nothing left to prove this year anyway
The roid cycle didn't line up well with this meet
Could be. Coburn, who is also New Balance, didn't run as well. Also, money aside, McLaughlin doesn't have a whole lot to gain by running Pre -- she's already won the biggest meet of the year and set the world record -- she can only diminish her season by losing to Muhammad. Or perhaps she just needs to rest.

If you are a 400M hurdler it's ridiculous you are not running a major world class 400M Hurdle race in your own country. It takes 50 seconds. It's not a marathon. Look up what professional means. Unless she is injured she should be racing.

You are right! Four-hundred metre hurdle training is actually more difficult than Marathon training. Four-hundred metre, 400mH and 800m training are the most difficult events for which to train. Not too many athletes in those three events participating in one or more of three events stated past age 35. McLaughlin has to be at her absolute best to beat D. Mohammed. Recall as adults Coe and Ovett only competed against each other in European Championship 800m, 1978 and two Olympics.

Remember there are two big Diamond league races next week in Europe. Probably over there getting ready for them

I didn't see that. None of the upcoming Diamond League meets are advertising McLaughlin. I did see Dalilah Muhammad and Femke Bol scheduled to face each other in one event.
Syd hasn’t run any other Diamond League meets this year. I don’t think we’ll see her in any of the rest on the schedule and she’s not going to get into the Diamond League final. (Is 400mh even contested in the final?)
Pre is Nike’s meet — they’ll bring in top American talent that aren’t Nike athletes, but many of them won’t be getting paid what they’d want. Syd isn’t just a New Balance athlete; she’s represented by Wes Felix, who’s caused Nike a lot of problems. (I was surprised to see Alyson Felix jump into this meet late. I suspect NBC may have insisted on it.)
For better or worse, Syd has never raced much when there’s nothing on the line.
All these factors brought together make it unsurprising that Syd didn’t compete at Pre.

She's said she's done for the season.

So she should only run in a meet if she has something to prove? Isn't running in meets part of her job?
She is a pro -- this is how she makes her money. Prize money and incentive endorsement money follows wins. She really should be racing.

Actually, it's so that a bunch of old farts who ran 21 minutes for 5K in their prime can have something to complain about while they scratch themselves in their basements.
Yes, this is her job, she is paid to run by NB, she should race. She is also supposed to be the face of the sport, get out and promote the sport, stop taking selfies.

I think for the non-Nike athletes, appearance money had a lot to to do with it. Guessing that's why Allyson wasn't confirmed till mid-week.

Saving this for next year’s indoor season, where New Balance sponsors a ton of events you won’t see Nike athletes running.
You will see Syd though, often running events well outside her speciality to fulfill racing obligations.
