Looks like no Gray, so Arkansas will need someone to step up to be their 5th. First meet is Friday.

I have. She would be on the list of those who might step up.
I don’t think Arkansas is a podium threat this season. I would agree if Thorvaldsen was 100%, She had a very serious injury. But who knows, maybe she can get back to where she was by Nationals, but that is asking a lot from her. I would think her coach will be very conservative with her since she is a freshman. But I have know doubt if she stays healthy she is a top 5 finisher next season
Preseason regional rankings out.
Oregon women not even mentioned in west region top 5.
Colorado raked behind BYU and NM, but ahead of NAU.
I'm a little surprised with Fl State being ranked 3rd in south (behind Alabama and old Miss)
Preseason national Poll - Arkansas gets no respect
6th is no respect? Odd thought...
Noticed that UVa. was only ranked 8th in the SE region. Someone is being Overpaid !
Wow. Big 10 meet will be awesome.

Almost the same team was ranked #1 for all of last year. Then focused on Indoors before the championship. Not saying they would have won, but I bet they would have podiumed. 6th seems pretty low to me.

It might be a little low, but preseason polls are pretty meaningless. In fact, I would argue that all cross country polls other than the one after nationals are pretty meaningless.

Arkansas also has a freshman from South Africa who has 2:06 800 speed and has run a 16:12 5000. In 2018 she was 27th at the World U20 XC championship. She is potentially the top incoming freshman.
Of course with freshmen the odds seem to be against them contributing immediately but Arkansas could challenge for the win if everyone performs up to their potential.
That is an idiotic statement. There are 333 women's teams. If you think that 5 unranked teams have the same chance at a national title as the top 5 ranked teams, you are clueless. If the NCAA meet was held this weekend, I guarantee that the polls would be close to accurately predicting the top 25 finishing teams.
I will go with 1)BYU, 2)Stanford, 3)Arkansas, 4) NC State, 5) Michigan State. I won't be correct, but I would bet $100 that those 5 all finish top 10.

Good info. 27th at 2019 World Junior XC beating Taryn O'Neill (6th in March) among others.

I don't know about meaningless, but they seem more based on recent reputation than anything else.

Wow, your reading comprehension and critical thinking skills need a lot of work. I didn't say that unranked teams have as good a chance to win as the top five. Nobody would say that. My point is that what actually matters are the results of the meets, particularly nationals. Being ranked third instead of sixth in the poll is something that only will really be mentioned in press releases or articles in the local newspaper. They don't really matter.

They are largely based on reputation and last season's results, which is why they don't matter that much. They only really get mentioned in press releases and articles in the teams' local newspapers. But teams can prove themselves at nationals, and then the final poll will adjust to reflect the reality of what happened at the most important meet of the year.
More on Arkansas. 3 of 5 freshman had some sort of injury issue in summer. But I had missed on Gregory returning (she is still not listed on their roster!), so this should be a very strong team.

Gregory coming back is huge. From Harter's interview it sounds like Thorvaldson is out for the season. Prinsloo appears to be their only healthy incoming freshman.
