The fast race helped Muir.
Muir is a very poor tactical runner. Just look at her championship record prior to this in the OG and WC.
WAS a poor tactical runner. Today, her tactics brought her a silver. She could have stayed in the pack and kicked for a bronze. Instead, she made great tactical moves today. Followed Hassan when she took the lead, then sat on Kipyegon's shoulder for 1000m, moved up on to Hassan's shoulder after Kipyegon kicked, then put the hammer down to pass Hassan just off the final turn. Every decision was the right one today and she took a medal that no one thought was available to her. She couldn't have run a better race and as Steve Cram said, given how good Kipyegon is, that silver will feel like a gold.
