Isn't the very definition of an olympian someone who participated in the Olympics? Or is that not the definition?

It's not just a letsrun definition. Nuguse is not an Olympian.

Just said Nuguse has a quad strain and is out.
Does that mean he can say he's an Olympian? Should give it a go or pull our earlier imo.
It is BS. This wasnt "discovered" at the race, they knew well in advance as training is taking place.
Way to screw over others who could represent.
Nuguse is a goose.

Thanks for posting. No one feels worse than Nguse that he could not run. Warmed up and realized he could not do himself or the race justice. Get better soon, Goose! Let’s Run is so predictably hilarious. Old 5 minute HS milers claiming they know better than world-class athletes.. Go Hocker and Centro!
BS.
We've merged another thread with this one. That's 4 now. Please 1 thread per topic. The other was "Craig Engels is an Olympian."

He should have run, even if he jogged it in 4:00. It's not how you want it to go, but he's won his place and it might be the only time he ever makes the team - a career has no certainties, he could easily lose form or get injured, or just not develop. More to the point, he's taken a place that others would have killed for, he owes it to all of them, not just Engels, to run
Craig could have finished top 3 at the Trials. Problem solved.

What kind of socialist, hippy shhit is this? He beat Engels at the Trials. He earned his spot. It is 100% his prerogative. Yared and Sean were hoping the injury could be treated/diminished before the heats. Is it too much to ask for you morons to hold a consistent libertarian stance?
Only losers, who have never "made it" could be upset with Nuguse, Biles or Barshim / Tambieri. People who have put all that effort and have sacrificed everything for the sports know better. Highest level sports is a community and athletes respect themselves, their bodies and their competitors. Only a "never made it" would think someone should rip their quads for a chance to run and that is mainly the reason why they never made it. Health is EVERYTHING.

Listen someone would have to knock me out with a baseball bat to not at least attempt an Olympic race. What the heck is going on? The so called GOAT of gymnastics decides not to compete for her country mid comp. High jumpers are hugging and kissing as they choose to “tie” when they could of competed for victories. Now a guy doesn’t even start the 1500 cause he has a little injury. This woke generation is destroying sports.
If Engles wanted to go he should have gotten top three at the Trials.
… spoken as someone who was an alt on a (non-Olympic) US team a long long time ago where a there was a DNS. It stung but I don’t think I had any claim on that position.
I guess this is LRC & that Nuguse is non-white but a lot of these comments go well past Engels should have gotten to run. We know very little about this. We know very little about the timeline & what medical staff was saying to him. The is the Olympics. Of course you're going to try to give it a go until you can't. Anyways, if it's serious enough that he couldn't start, I hope the kid is ok.

Haha, others would have killed for it?
Too bad they wouldn't run for it because that's how it works.

He is NOT an Olympian.
You must show up to the starting line to be an Olympian.
Did he qualify for the Olympics? YES
Is he an Olympian? NO
A false start is considered an Olympian. A dnf is considered an Olympian.
A dns is not an Olympian.
That’s not fair…

Or definitive...
I'll forever call him fake Olympian Yared.
Jeez why not just line up, jog 3 steps, wave at the camera and step off? Is this some crippling injury?
No Nuguse came top 3 at trials it's his rightful spot he said he tried his best to get to that start line but he couldn't due to injury he believed he had a chance at racing and getting over the injury so good on him it's his spot not Craigs
you are stupid it's his spot he thought there was a chance it could heal in time for the race and he only pulled out 20 minutes before hand dont blame him because Craig couldn't qualify for the olympics
Great interview with Steve Cram - says Jakob has no chance of WRs this year
