I thought about the same thing lol. I thought they should have demanded he run a sub 51 400 in order to get his spot in the finals so that the fatigue is even.
Amos's race is typically finished not long after 650m. Running the full distance isn't his specialty. I expect we will see that in the final. If he doesn't trip up. Or trip someone else up.
David Rudisha set the world 800 meter record after completing two 800 meter heats in the 2012 Olympics. In that same race Nijel Amos set his lifetime best, also after completing two heats.
I don't think Nijel has gained any real advantage.
He still would have edged Bolt in his Carmax "race".

The bigger advantage is he didn't have to run down Tuka and Giles. He very well might have, but he's had some mystifyingly bad last 150 meters in the past.
He’s run 750m before dying out. Then Murphy will out kick him and Rotich will too.
