Ferlic ran close to his PR, but the Japanese guy made the last 500 feel like the 1500m final. Girma wasn't going to loose just out of principle so the race ran away from Ferlic

Wale entered for the steeple? I'm picking him FTW if he's running.
I also noticed this. He's entered in heat 2 taking the spot of another Ethiopian. If he's not running, that's super douchey. But if he is, I get a lot of points in the prediction contest lol.
Yeah very tough double to do. Strong showings from Kigen, Girma and home favourite Miura but they could have stepped off of the pace earlier.
How many do they take from each heat?
Where did the Japanese get a sub 8:10 guy? The US has to beg for them.

Picks can be amended after event starts??

3 automatic from each heat. I'm not sure how many more

3 from each heat and next 6 fastest

3 auto Qs and 6 time qs. I thought Mason choked but he actually ran what he's capable of. I think he could have a shot at a small q depending on what happens in the next two heats.

The NBC stream just cut out showing Wale walking out to the track. Looks like he's in!

Announcers mentioned he set a NR of 8:15 earlier this year. So another big PR for him to get a new NR

8:20 for Ferlic is pretty good. Probably not good enough for the finals though.
3 auto 6 times for 15 total. Bad showing for Bedrani who was 5th iirc in Doha. 8:20 and likely out.

Piss poor performance from Ferlic
Actually, I think he was pretty good. Only 2 seconds off his PB in high humidity/heat, and with an outside shot to get through with a little 'q' if the other heats are slow.
I don't think you could have expected anything more from him.
Pretty embarrassing that the start lists aren't known more than 15 minutes before the events start. It's not as if this is the Olympics or anything...
are those tattoos or some sort of patches on the Japanese guy?

That's rough. Maybe! There are already 3-4 ahead of him . I'm going to root for the Japanese guy if he doesn't make it.
90% humidity there.
dew point in tokyo right now is 76, and thunderstorms are due. brutal conditions.
love how the japanese guy miura was ome-stepping the barriers and qualified for the next round anyway.

It looks like cup therapy maybe?
My first impression is that Wale has pretty bad hurdling technique. Maybe the reason to why he hasn't been AS good as on the flat races (thinking about the 7:24 and his eth trials).
Look like patches. If this guy goes under 8:10 too I'm calling PED.
