Kendricks states that he tested negative both immediately before and immediately after his positive test.

In retrospect, not a great idea to have lots of Mississippians come out to watch him practice right before flying to Tokyo

Smooth move Kendricks. Hope he knocks out all the favorites for pole vault lol.

One unvaccinated U.S. athlete tests positive. He’s interacted with dozens of other American athletes, presumably most of whom are vaccinated, and they have not (at least yet) been forced to withdraw.
Imagine thinking these facts make the vaccines look bad. Kudos to the American athletes who took a very simple step to protect themselves and others from heartbreak in Tokyo.
You do know that the story now is that the vax does not prevent you from getting Covid, but instead lessens the symptoms?

Positive tests. He had three consecutive positives with three different types of tests.
Then he claimed a negative test afterwards with some kind of self-administered test. I don't know how something like that could be even remotely as accurate as something tested in a lab, and of course he could have intentionally or unintentionally administered the test wrong.
I found his Instagram video to be fairly annoying, he deflects the blame onto the Japanese Olympic Committee for daring to have silly COVID protocols instead of accepting any personally responsibility. Maybe next time don't decline a highly effective vaccine and hang out maskless in big crowds in a COVID hotspot right before the Olympics?
Should have been vaccinated. His ignorance cost him a golf medal.
This is sad. My daughter tested positive and missed XC nationals. She got tested again 3 x and was negative, but they still wouldn’t let her run. I would hope that these athletes have multiple tests to prove they are positive.

I think the implication is that he has an extremely low viral load. It's why he is asymptomatic, and why he probably passed tests into Tokyo. He likely had an extremely small amount of COVID that was above the threshold. While he has traces of COVID in his system it is not enough to trigger a positive with the higher-threshold antigen tests etc. Ultimately, this is a situation that stinks because it's unlikely he would be a spreader, but judging these on a case-by-case basis is impossible. Sam had a case of COVID (no matter how mild) and for safety reasons he can not compete.

The competition is stiff, but you have by far the smoothest brain on LetsRun.

They do. As has been pointed out, repeatedly.
Sam’s “statement” is completely irrelevant. The guy wants to compete — I don’t blame him. The reality is that they don’t pull you out of competition unless you fail three straight consecutive tests. He failed the protocol — he’s out.
Eventually, anyone who tests positive will test negative. What matters is that he failed those three straight tests.

I didn't know he was competing in the golf tournament as well.
Fly him home and out of Japan ASAP.
Hi instagram has kind of a serial killer vibe. Like super pleasant and smooth on the outside--but probably enraged on the inside because both he and his parents blame the Japanese, not the unvaccinated masses in Mississippi including himself.

He tested negative when he got to Tokyo, and just before leaving for Tokyo. But, your hate and intolerance for people is very positive.

Hate to break it to you, but that's EXACTLY how vaccines work!! To dumb it down for you: It's not a "wall" that keeps everything out. It trains the troops (your bodies immune system) how to respond and attack the virus if you get exposed to it. Its not a shield, it's an army.
And to your other post. Yes, most people don't develop symptoms, but they are contagious at that stage, so they could pass it to someone that will and get violently ill or die from it. You know what type of diseases are easier to manage? Ebola...because when you get it, most people are so sick or die off quick, it doesn't spread as wide. This one can infect a large population without the spreaders even knowing it before it's way too late.
Let me know if you need an even simpler explanation. Its sad the people fighting against the vaccine movement have ZERO basic knowledge how they function or why the precautions are in place. I guess ignorance is considered "being smart" to some people.

The Antigen tests are rapid tests that are used quite frequently in athletics.
They are cheaper and do not have the higher sensitivity that the PCR (lab) test commands.
Sam Kendricks is terribly confused if he's blaming his positive Covid test on the Japanese.
He eventually got tested by a very specific PCR test that is highly sensitive and has less than a >1% false positive rate.
Sam should learn to keep his mouth shut about things he knows nothing about.

Bingo!
Sam isn't the smartest tool in the shed.
He's a religious guy from the South. Vaulters who know him say that there is no way that he got the vaccine.
Sam should keep his mouth shut and stop blaming the Olympic hosts and others.
It was probably a false positive. We already know the PCR test is ineffective. Was never FDA authorized and will be removed from use in a few months:
Dr. Fauci himself said that the higher thresholds on the PCR test (which are still inexplicably in use) detect nothing more than dead nucleotides.

Would explain why Sam tested negative around the same time and has no symptoms. Reminds me back when NFL and MLB teams were showing all these positive results and players were symptom-free.
Unfortunately, this won't prevent other athletes in Tokyo from testing positive and falling victim to this ineffective test.
