+1 on this. He had a shot at a medal and was just a bad day. Would he have even a shot to medal in any running event? No way.
Stay the course, Morgan.

He is a legitimate medal threat in triathlon. The same can not be said in running. He made the right decision. Rare is the individual that can run fast and swim fast. Most runners sink like a stone in the water. He had an off race at the Olympics. His potential is still there. Given the short timeframe he has been training for triathlon, I expect he will do much better going forward.
Where is the media? Have we heard from Morgan himself on his performance?

The other American guy, who was in the top ten, trains in Colorado Springs. Just to totally destroy your hypothesis.
You have to remember, Morgan Pearson self admittedly has no talent and everything he does is born purely out of hard work. You have to weigh which sport has more talent in it to truly know which he should pursue full time.
Morgan addressed his performance. After "not feeling well" on the bike and swim he said, “I didn’t run hard. I was taking the run really easy. It’s obviously the Olympics. I wanted to finish. So I just used it as my easy run, and I got in 10k”
He also failed to congratulate his fellow countryman and teammate who did something no US Male Triathlete has ever done. Class act!
He can make more money from triathlons at his level than he can at running.

and everyone reacts to heat and humidity differently so that proves nothing. if you dont perform well in heat and humidity and dont train in those conditions it can be a rude awakening. have to be dialed in with nutrition, cooling strategies and adjusting effort.
I think I read somewhere that the death of his brother earlier in the year really impacted his build up and he started about a month later than he should have. Some things are more important than the Olympics.
His last 2 results on the circuit before Tokyo were a 3rd @ Yokohama & a 2nd @ Leeds. He beat Yee @ Yokohama & Wilde @ Leeds. I would say that, for whatever reason, he just had an off day at the Olympics. He's a very good runner, but a national class runner. Might make a team or two if his only focus was running. He's currently ranked 9th in the World at Triathlon. He's an Olympian. He can make a living solely from his sport. He can attract more sponsors as a triathlete. I hope everything is ok with him. Dk if it was an injury, the weather, going out too fast on the swim, etc. He usually runs great at the end of races. Could only run 34 w./ the :15 penalty.
He is coming back in the relay…after the 15 second penalty, there was no reason to run hard. What a dumb rule though…why does it matter where your goggles go when you’re done with them.
Morgan ran twice 13:36.+ @ Colorado and 13:32 on the road.
Not the 13:26 you listed.

Guess he proved he's not that good in the triathlon either. Wasn't even competitive.
Exactly. Sure, he made an Olympic team, but who hasn't? Any of us could do that if we weren't so busy banging supermodels on our yachts. He sucks.

it's also probably easier to cobble together a living off sponsorship money since there's so much more gear involved. if he focused just on running he might be good but would definitely take a pay cut.
Isn’t his family literally billionaires? Doubt the money is a big deal for him

Surprised nobody has pointed this out. Morgan Pearson is the only one of the Tinman crew (current or former) to make it to the Olympics.
He's only been in triathlon for a few years and medaled at the equivalent of a major marathon (Yokohama) + ranked top 10 in the world:

He's in the right spot. He's doing the work. Success will follow.

Also important to note that he made the Olympics after not being coach my Tinman for a few years.
You're totally right. He said that post race & would have been out of it even if he crushed the run. Well, now he's as fresh as anyone. US has a good shot at a medal in the mixed relay.
LRC finds a way to hate on anybody trying their best at sport. Morgan is doing well in the triathlon world. Guess that makes some people angry.
yeah, 14min at 500w would be 7.1 w/kg for a 70 kilo rider. so, yeah, pretty high level GC or TT guy. also, not sure what point coach is making here. no one is doing 500w in this draft legal race for 14 min.
I’m a D2 female runner. Our coach explicitly told us not to visit LetsRun forums.
