The defenses of the coach being posted here are problematic and worrying. Accepting that consent was violated, but stating that we can only take the survivor at her word that it reached the genitals? Making a false statement about police saying no massage was involved? Victim blaming the survivor for potentially hurting the reputation of the coach with no thought to the impact this had on her? Neatly skirting by the fact that an older male coach being alone with (and giving a massage to) a young female athlete behind closed doors violates Athletics Canada policy and is a fireable offense in and of itself?
This speaks to a bad athlete culture at UBC. I can't imagine a situation where I would side with a coach, ESPECIALLY WITH ALL THIS EVIDENCE, rather than a teammate in such distress.
