Did we ever get an explanation as to how he got outkicked by a 13:18 guy in a 14:00+ race in Spanish Nat champs like 2.5 weeks ago? That only closed in a 56?

He was sore from doing 100 x 400m @ 55 w/ 30 seconds jogging recovery in Sabadell.. or Andorra, or wherever. Easy to mix those places up.
People claiming Katir is 5000m favourite are suffering from serious short-term memory loss. A reminder that Wale ran 7:24 indoors, Kiplimo ran 12:48 after being a pacer for 3000m, Mo Ahmed and Knight ran the same 5000m as Katir and that Cheptegei has the WR in the event. Katir is obviously a medal contender, but remember that in march Katir got FOURTH PLACE at the european indoor championships, he placed second at the spanish indoor champiships for 3000m and second for spanish 5000m championships just two weeks ago running 14:08.
Idk anything about his group or agent, but I see on his IG that he trains a lot in the spanish national sports center in sierra nevada.
Listening to the commentary by Cram and Radcliffe, it was like they had never raced before. They spent the whole race talking up Mcsweyn even when it was obvious Katir was just sitting on him. Katir had this in the bag from 600 to go, it was a just a question of when he wanted to make the move. Mcsweyn is a fine runner but he has no change of gear, he'll spend his career pacing others to championship medals.
This all leaves aside the question of Katir's improvement which has been discussed at length elsewhere on the boards. Right now, he looks a serious prospect for 5k gold
Jakob is faster and better.

They have the endurance but I'm not sure if they are 3:28 1500m guys.
Getnet WALE is a 3000m steeplechase expert
The only thing he showed is endurance.
Kiplimo kicking Katir will be a challenge.
2 THE GILLS!!!

They are not 3:28 1500m guys and neither is Katir. Neither was Mo Farah. IF Monaco or a bouncy indoor track is your personal best, DON’T waste my time with those performances when trying to make a point. Intelligence still matters to some of us.

The Africans have been quite susceptible to doped up 3:28 guys in championship races since Bekele's reign.
They'll probably vie for silver having forgotten it takes 5:05 over the last 2K to beat great kickers... and 5:00 to beat invincible doped up Spanish kickers timing their fitness peak and EPO/transfusion/HGH cycles for the Games.

Even if you come 2 meters behind Cheruiyot at his best, it doesn't matter your intelligence?
He makes Hocker’s improvement this year look anemic.
Who goes from 3:36 to 3:28, 7:44 to 7:27 and 13:50 to 12:50???
Has there ever been someone in the history of the world who improved that fast?

Katir has NEVER come within 2 meters of Tim at his best. Not yet anyway. Not at 1500m. You haven’t seen Tim at his best this year.

yup. the announcing was just horrendous for this one. and I am a big fan of Cram.
Odd. Hutchings and Chris Dennis (is that the name) were pretty much expecting it to play out as it did. They just wondered if he’d moved too early - 225m to go… they talked up his kick and form beforehand.

I plugged in a few of the obvious usual suspects and nothing came close.
Also of these Katir simps is gonna lose it because you're "mischaracterizing" his 3k progression as if it is any less damning.
7:44 (9/22/2020) -> 7:35 (1/29/2021) -> 7:27 (today)

Katir said that what happened in Monaco face to Cheruiyot will not happens next year.
I have just looked now his 3000m, he has a body with elegant fitness.

Ah yes. Tim not at his best, even though he set a PR at Monaco.

Correct.
