You’ve all missed that the banned list spans all sports. Same list for endurance sports as marksmanship sports.
Depressants help shoots, don’t help marathoners.
Caffeine helps endurance sports would hinder archery.
Do you even know what’s on the list?
Maybe it’s time for sports specific controls?

I see it differently.
I see the rule as stating:
'This is a banned substance. Its has side effects. It is a DRUG. Just don't use it and you'll be fine'
Sounds simple enough to me. A lot of people become emotionally involved and make a big deal about it.
At the end of the day it's very simple. This athlete is 1 athlete out of many. She broke a rule. She therefore has to accept the consequences of her actions. If anyone else broke the rule they would face the same penalty.
I don't think most people have a hard time passing up a joint when it's in their best interests.
Why is that argument not considered?
It's not being considered because alcohol is objectively less healthy, more widely misused, and no less of a "DRUG" than pot. Yet alcohol receives dramatically different treatment due to decades-old hysteria directed at pot. Any argument that mentions banning weed without including alcohol is intellectually dishonest.
Looking at the original post there is good reason for it to be banned as effects are not predictable (the poster says "The affects (should be effects) of THC varies person to person." and could lead to disastrous consequences. You just negated your own argument. Advice, don't become an attorney.

One of the things I inadvertently learned during research in the early 2000s is that the addition of cannabinoids to the prohibited list was entirely USA-driven and based on their "war on drugs." No other country wanted it.
Did you find in your research that THC/marijuana can be used as a masking agent?
I had heard this in the past and this was the primary reason I believed it to be banned. I checked the USADA site and the reasons for THC being banned does not list masking agent. Can you post a study about its use as a masking agent?
I shouldn't have laughed at this, but I did.
The (likely old) people who are anti pot in this thread are the same types of people who throughout history have opposed progress in other ways. Just waiting on enough of you to die so we can begin the process of unlearning all the dumb ideas you had.
Veering into the lane. You mean like Sergei who got tripped into the hurdles and is now nowhere to be found?

Nice ad hominem.
I’ve never smoked weed in my life. The rule is stupid.
Two things:
1. I'd like one person defending this rule to explain why they think alcohol is fine being left off of the Substance of Abuse list.
2. If athletes are supposed to be role models for healthy lifestyles, then people need to start getting bans for competing while injured and promoting bodily harm in pursuit of athletic achievement.
I was wondering when someone would mention Ross Rebagliati. On another thread posters have said that the US need not listen to WADA. AFAIK it was the US that lobbied for THC as a banned substance after 1998. Ross was tested at 17.8 ng.
While I mostly find the inclusion of weed a little outdated there are 2 circumstances that are legit to consider.
A - someone in javelin could show up high be less considerate of where they are aiming their jav or in archery could be dangerous if high. Highly unlikely anyone is prevented from doing that because of it being on the banned list but lawyers would happily defend someone who committed such an offense as I just noted if the sanctioning body had said, drugs are ok. So its essentially liability protection.
B - Weed has an artificial calming impact on the brain and body and a large part of sport is dealing with the stress before a big competition so placing a ban on athletes use of it puts the ability to deal with stress on the athlete to manage. Now there are legal options I’m sure many already use but weed is a powerful one and this is a possible reason to ban it.
I understand that cannabis has a variety of medicinal applications, but at the same time, the effects of CBD vary from person to person, so people should be careful. And especially it's important to use only high-quality products on the licensed platforms like https://absolutenaturecbd.com/product-category/cbd-hemp-flower/ because products with lower quality may even cause damage.

I'm Gen X and it think most people my age are totally fine with legalization. Is it the last remaining Baby Boomers that are opposing it?
Politically I know Biden is adamantly opposed to legalization. Pelosi and Harris both come from a state where it has been legalized. We really need to clarify the Federal position so these business can operate and have the same protections under the law as all other businesses.

Go look at weed use in the 60s. Boomers smoked a lot. Biden isnt a boomer. He is a silent generation guy.
you will find a lot of cognitative dissonance on drugs. Everyone want theirs legal but the others are way too dangerous. And I have yet to find a single person who thinks letting the drug companies do research into making better recreational drugs is a good idea.
Well, cannabis is still not allowed everywhere in the world, so I suppose this fact matters too. Personally, I think there's nothing wrong with cannabis, but it's just not for me. As for CBD, that's better, and I even want to start investing in this stock since it's going to be even more popular soon, and this page https://joyorganics.com/top-cbd-stocks-you-should-invest-in-today/ made me think about it.
I think that cannabis should be legalized for medical purposes! It helped me so much with pain relief after I got broken my hand and had a few surgeries.
