100 in full sun and 90 with no sun are VASTLY different running experiences even though both temps are very warm for running.
Track surface will be 130+F.
Ever experienced heat blisters from running on a hot track? I have and it’s not fun to recover from - we use our feet in most everything we do.
That alone will set these competitors back days of critical training leading up to the Olympics.
USATF, please reschedule events on Sunday to safer condition times in the day.
I was wondering if anyone was going to bring this up. Been there. Also wondering how much effect the roof has on surface temps, glare etc... I know it helps make 4k people sound like a great crowd (imagine what 12k would sound like) and that it will possibly keep spectators dry in the slring but im not sure it helps on hot days.
Regarding New Orleans, THAT was a survival event for a lot of athletes but it was a great meet. Indianapolis has seen its share of humidity/thunderstorms, Sacramento was an inferno that took down even Mo Greene and Michael Johnson. So theres history with being uncomfortable in the summertime. Go figure. Now that we have supershoes we need to build airconditioned stadiums, right? Oh, Doha.
