That degree of heat is not healthy to be doing strenuous exercise.
It will impact certain events more than others.
Have to think USATF will move the men’s 5k from 4:25 PM to the morning when temperatures are SAFE to run. Same holds true for the women’s 10k which runs after the 5k and 200m
This is the Olympic Trials. Running a 5k or 10k in 100+F will not lead to having the best athletes gaining spots on the team, rather it will lead to who has the best adaptation to extreme heat and/or serious heat exhaustion/stroke.
Any athlete that is hospitalized due to heat stroke should sue USATF and the USOC because both groups have time to make a decision and do the right thing for athlete safety. Organizations talk a good game about integrity, safety, athletes first etc. let’s see if they walk the talk.
Might as well just have these two event participants run 400 m.
