Does she have to make the 800 team to be selected for 4x4 pool? The best USA 4x4 team may only have 1 open 400 runner with the 2 400Hurdlers and Mu on it.
I don't even know the rules for relays, but Dalilah hasn't broken 50 in the open 400. I would have Jonathas, Syd Mc, Mu, Hayes.....in that order.
No way they leave Felix off the 4x4. She finished 2nd in the trials and it's her last Olympics.
Assuming no one is injured, it will be Hayes, Felix, and Jonathas for sure. The 4th runner in the 4x4 will be a last minute coaches decision between McLaughlin, Mu, and Ellis depending on how they perform in the individual events.
No. Someone started an online rumor a few years ago claiming that she had, but in reality Jelimo has never given birth.

Fair enough. I can't argue with that, thanks for the answer. Am hoping/assuming that she will be on the 4x400 squad.
That was my question, can she be on the 4x400 Olympic Squad? How do you keep the fastest woman off the finals squad?
First, she has to make the team. Second, is there an example of someone who didn't run the primary distance of a relay being included on a finals squad before? Maybe Alyson Felix before?
FloJo ran on the 4x400 in the 1988 Olympics even though her only 2 individual events in that Olympics were the 100 and 200.
I also think that Alyson Felix has done that at least once.

Shamier Little broke 50 this year .

How come? If she doesn't make it in the 800m they would leave a 49.57 runner at home? I don't think so. Athink Mu is a lock for the relay, as she is the fastest American in 400m.
You have to be going to Tokyo as one of the 400m finalists, or one of the top 3 in your event to be on the relay. If she fails to make the Olympic team she can't run on the relay.

She is top 1 in 400m. Why would they care how she performs in 800m? They wouldn't choose Ajee Wilson for the relay, now would they?
In 1996 Anthuan Maybank got dq from the 400 at the trials for a lane violation after crossing the line in 5th. They kept him in the relay pool anyway. When Butch and Michael Johnson got hurt, Maybank ended up running a great anchor, holding off Roger Black of Great Britain for the gold.

USATF doesn't choose runners for the 4x400 based on how fast someone is at 400. They look at who has qualified for the Olympics in an individual event, and then out of that group they choose who they think will be the 4 fastest 400 runners.
You may not like how the 4x400 relay team is choosen, but that doesn't change the fact that that's how they do it.
That's why it's risky for Athing Mu to only run the 800 at the Olympic Trials. If she doesn't finish top 3, she won't be on the 4x400. On the other hand, they take the top 8 finishers in the 400 at the Olympic Trials to the Olympics as part of their 4x400 relay pool.
In any case, the US has so many good women 400 runners that they will easily win the 4x400 at the Olympics even without Mu.

Knowledge is Power!
They think they are in the pool but not necessarily. They can pick multiple runners from 100-200-400-800-400h.

That's correct. It seems likely that this year, because of having so many women on the team that can run a really fast 400, that one or more of the 8 women's 400 Olympic Trial finalists in the pool will not actually run a race in the Olympics.
I recall Edwin Moses running the relay at the '83 WC too.
