A 14:18 would be a top-10 time for 5000m. How the hell is that possible?
The shoes are no doubt having an impact. The 5,000 all-time list has also been historically weak. See three Ethiopians at 14:15 or faster today with Gidey not even in the field, and Tsegay running it somewhat crazily.
The old 5k record was so"weak" that Ayana, Genzebe, Obiri and Hassan could not beat it. Anon comes Gidey who could never win a DL meet in 2017-19 against Hassan etc. and destroys the 5k with wavelights by 5 sec. and now the 10k, running the second half faster than her PB from 2018/19?!?!?!
Sure, Gidey was still very young (but look at Tsegay struggling to run 14:46 only LAST FALL, now 33! seconds faster with crazy splits). There has been some kind of game changer (lights, shoes, doping, whatever), even after 2019, otherwise this is inexplicable.
