When has Jakob had trouble with rounds? His main issue is lack of true last 100m wheels, not getting torched in the rounds.
I'd imagine he does fairly similar stuff (maybe not as balls to the walls as this, but still).

I still want to know if the RD asked all these ~1:50 runners, most of whom were presumably racing seriously, if it was cool to have an elite miler use them for workout pacers.
Why?

Cringy AlSal nonsense.
Remember when Mary Cain was having awful races but supposedly had great "workouts"?
This isn't looking good for Centro.
If he was fit he would have gone for a 1:46 win in the 800 or run the 1500 with Kerr. Instead he protects his ego with this jokey exhibition. Sad!
I’m assuming you’re trolling.
Centro will easily win the US Olympic trials.

He goes 1:50-1:50 in heats w no more than 5 mins between the end of the first and the start of the 2nd, and comes back 15 mins after the second one to run 1:53. I dont have a good sense of what this means for his 1500m fitness... is this a piece of cake for a guy with a 3:35 SB? Is this unheard of outside of Webb's 2007 workouts? Somewhere in between?
Webb never made it out of the first round at the Olympics...
Centro is preparing his strength for rounds. USAs is typically lousy warm weather and nobody is going to run below 3:34. He won gold last time against guys with better PBs than him. This is USA trials, not as much talent or experience. He knows what he’s doing.
Centro also owns the trials 1500m record...3:34.09.
He’s probably in 3:32 shape. Maybe he was hoping he was back in his best (3:29-3:30) form and was hence disappointed by his final 1:53 800. He’s got to be the favorite for the Trials—I’ve changed my prediction for the Olympic teams so many times over the last two years, but right now I’d lean toward Centro, Engels, and one of two collegians, Nuguse or Hocker.
That workout from 2016 is insane.

Because it matters to me that the sport retain at least some amount of integrity in its competition.
1:50 guys are the next level (or two) from elite and they are there to, as I already wrote in plain English, race seriously. It may not be the highest level but it's a real competition and not something to just let some random elite train through and steal the show.
Did they charge admission to this meet? I hope not, that's like paying to watch a color run.

From a mental perspective, not good. Now he has trained his mind that "oh this feeling is a race and there might be another one right after, so I will let up now and conserve energy".
Races should be taken more seriously for a runner on the decline.
