Had a solid one this morning, 6.5 at 6:57 overall...7:35, 7:17, 7:03, 6:50, 6:40.2, 6:35.7, 3:09.5. So, a nice downward progression with a sub-7 avg...but, having so few training days (13) going into this little race, my main concern surely is not being able to get the legs going early. It seems to take me 4 miles or more to start eating into the pace. Hence, my question...
What should I do on race day? I plan on doing a one-day “static taper” by resting tomorrow (race is Wed. morning). Should I take a longer warm-up on race morning? Usually do about 1.5 miles. Should I do something else? What do you guys and gals think? I have never done anything like this before, and I guess that is the fun part of it...racing a 5k on 13 days of training. Race weather here at the beach looks good...upper 60s and some wind, but not super windy. It is a special course for National Running Day, and the RD told me it should run pretty fast...an out-and-back with one sharp turnaround at the 1.55 mark.
Thanks...
