They just had four guys break 9 and two go WAY under. All 4 are underclassmen so they’ll be back for xc in the fall. How’s their fifth man? Could they be good enough to make division 1 xc nationals?

No.
D1 no.
D2 no.
D3 Yes.
Aside from the guys that broke 9, they also have sophomore Aaron Sahlman who won the mile in 4:14 yesterday. Also ran a 15:10 at Desert Twilight last fall and was their 4th man there.

As a D2 runner I can assure you they would go to nationals. They would without a doubt be top 3 in many regions
No.
8K and 10K cross country are not track time trials. Plus they would be racing guys 4 to 5 years older.
Michigan's 7th man this year was 8:06 3k and they didn't make xc nationals. 7 people faster than their 1st. So no, they wouldn't even be close.
Yes.
D1-qualify
D2- competitive top 5
D3- competitive top 5
Juco- win
Good luck to these guys. Keep working hard, enjoy the process, long term development.
Did you read that their top runner wouldn't even make top 7 for Michigan who didn't qualify? That isn't hard to understand. Iowa is one of the worst distance programs in the Big 10 and they have 2 guys sub 14 and another guy sub 8 for 3k. They also have a handfulnof guys at 3:45 for 1500. So NP wouldn't even be close to one of the worst teams in the conference. These are just facts, not opinions.
Maybe they squeeze into the lower half of D2. Assuming they can run cross as well as they can track.
Coming from a guy who has made it to D1 nationals with his team 3 years so far, yes newbury park could make it out of a weaker region. At the end of the day, PR’s don’t mean everything on the track but this NP coach trains bus guys at an elite level. I bet they could have taken top 25 this past cross nationals in Stillwater, OK. My 3k PR is slower than these guys converted 3200 times, and I was in the top 100 back in mid March. You guys are just salty that these high schoolers are running fast and you’re probably not good enough haha
Syracuse got last place at D1 nationals
Syracuse 5k
13:52*
14:04
14:08**
14:16
14:17
14:19
14:25
*JP converted from 28:55 10k
**Silas converted from 29:28 10k
Syracuse also has Alex Comerford at 4:08 and Gavin and Kevin at 3:49 & 3:52 for the 1500
Newbury 3200 - Newbury 5k equivalent
8:43 - 14:00
8:43 - 14:00
8:55 - 14:18
8:56 - 14:20
9:10 - 14:41
9:27 - 15:08
9:30 - 15:13
Dual Meet Scores
Syracuse: 1 - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - (10) = 23 points
Newbury Park: 2 - 3 - 8 - 9 - 11 = 33 points
They're still high schoolers, guys. Amazing high schoolers, but still high schoolers.

Amazing accomplishment, but 3200 on a track is a completely different animal than 10k on the grass.
Which region? Which team this year since you have already been shown that their top runners wouldn't make Michigan's top 7 and Michigan didn't qualify.

Are you crazy, have you actually seen what times most d2 guys run? The majority of d2 schools would be LUCKY to have a single sub-9 guy on their team, let alone 4. An 8:43 guy would easily be an all-american at NCAA's. I ran d2 and had teammates who could never even sniff 8:43 go AA in xc. At D2, Newbury would most likely medal. I think they could qualify in D1.
Grand Valley State would 'bury' them. 3 sub 14:00 plus 4 more around 14:10. And they're not D1. They are a very good D2 team however.
I’m from the western area of the US, the two regionals out of there are ridiculous. They would definitely make it out of the southern regions. For example, you know it isn’t very hard to beat Texas in cross, among others where money is out towards sprints and jumps. My team had no sub 8:10 guys when we made it out two of the years. They have the equivalent of two, and more guys. Like I said, their coach would be able to prep them to be competitive, he’s the real deal and they keep surprising us.
You do realize Michigan would have made it this year if they were allowed to compete at their conference meet...right? Since Syracuse had the race of their season and Michigan didn’t run John aho, a two time all American, they got screwed out of a messy year with no proper regionals. Michigan would have definitely taken top 12 in my opinion, our team felt bad for them
I will ask again. How can they qualify when Michigan didn't while Michigan's 7th runner is the speed of NP's number 1? Lay out the numbers. It seems that most of you failed math at your D2 school.
But Syracuse got last and they are faster than NP. So there were no weaker teams than Syracuse. That seems pretty easy to understand. Lay out the PRs of some teams who qualified and lay out the PRs of the teams who were close and you will see that there are no teams without runners well under 8:10. Facts are frightening.
Many really strong 1st year college runners redshirt because 10k (and twice in 9 or 10 days or whatever) is so different from 3200, and it takes time to build that strength.
That difference between 10k and 3200 is not being given enough attention in this discussion.
