The Grand Canyon.
I didn’t have that “omg this is life altering” moment. It looks like you’d think it would look. I’d rather stay in Sedona than do that day trip again.
The Grand Canyon is pretty impressive but you have to be able to get your butt out of your car and hike down a little bit.
I was surprised to see so many posters list the Grand Canyon. If you haven't seen it and plan to, organize your trip so you can see it as the sun rises and the sun sets. The colors are more vivid and the shadows give it more depth.
It's the same with Badlands. We went to Badlands National Park well before sunrise. I walked to an overlook and could see nothing. There was no guard rail so I thought nothing of it. Later, we drove back by in daylight and I went to the same overlook. It was a sheer drop into a canyon filled with vertical rock spires! I was shocked that I had stood so close to the edge only a few hours earlier! We stayed in the park all day and drove its length at sunrise and sunset. The colors are washed out in midday sunlight, but it's majestic at sunrise and sunset.
