I use a fairly basic Garmin (FR35) and noticed some strange HR readings (I use the built in wrist monitor and not a chest strap so realise readings might not be as accurate).
I often find that on my harder runs my HR will stay steady at around 140-150 bpm for approx 8-10 mins and then jumps up to 170-180 bpm and remains at that level for the remainder of the run.
I’m not running spectacularly fast and it’s below race pace.
Example is running a 5k loop on a dead flat course averaging 3:55-4:00 Km’s. I feel relatively comfortable and although I might be working a little harder in the 2nd half (and I’d expect my HR to increase) I don’t understand a “sudden jump” in HR.
Is it just inaccuracy on a wrist based HR monitor?
